In Acheson's Charge
Of Crime by Russians

eagerly establishing itself as an
ccomplice in a specific crime of
which the Soviet Union is ac
cused. Secreatry of State Dean
Acheson made the accusation
Wednesday. He said (he Krem
lin was guilty of an internation
al crime in charging that the
United Nations are waging germ
warfare In Korea.
The New York Communist
newspaper has offended repeat
edly since Chinese Communists
in early spring dreamed up their
latest propaganda gimmick. Its
news columns frequently have
carried stories from Washington
and abroad making the germ
warfare accusation, and calling
for punishment of military and
other persons ' responsible for
such.
The Dally Worker is going

yonder when the Russians and
the free peoples were fighting
on the same side, and the United
States was on the job of getting
the Russians off a dangerous
spot.
Talk Eased Off
Chinese Communist talk of
germ warfare eased off a bit in
mid-April. But it has been re
vived again with a bang ob
viously in phony dispatches that
two American airmen had con'
fessed in captivity.
The Daily Worker will be
back on the party line any time
now with resolutions from Com
munist fronts and fellow travel
lers at home and abroad in pro
test against the germ warfare
strawman the Reds created.
The project is complete with
horror stories such as an "eye
witness account" of a germ
attack cabled to the Daily Work
er from ita Paris correspondent
who got it from one Wu, direct
from Mukden. In this tear jerk
er, a Chinese 12-year-old named
Saioyung and his friends found
a bacterial bomb.
Bugs Found Inside
"Inside," the dispatch related,
"they found flies and insects
with two-colored legs."
Within a matter of hours the
child was dead. Autopsy dis
covered a new type of sleeping
sickness. With such nonsense as
that the Daily Worker eagerly
joins in what the secretary of
state named as an international
crime. How Communists ex
plain, to each other among them
selves how the Daily Worker
can continue such damaging and
seditious acts and still freely
circulate with the privileges of
second class mail, to boot, is
something worth pondering.
Easily Explained
Free Americans can explain
it easily enough. It is because
the Communist press is as safe
as any other here under the
protection of Article I of the
Bill of Rights: "Congress shall
make no law , . . abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the
press." In time of war it could
be different.
The election In November will
mark the 25th presidential con
test between the Democratic and
Republican parties. The Republi
cans have won 14, the Demo
crats 10.
More Meal Seen
This Year With
Prices About Same
Washington - (U.R) The Agri
culture Department predicted
Thursday there will be more
meat available this year, but not
necessarily at lower prices.
The department said in a live
stock and meat report that 1952
commercial meat production
through March totaled 5,537,
000,000 pounds, eight per cent
more than a year ago and the
largest meat output for the first
quarter since 1948.
Production Increase
Increased meat production, it
said, should continue throughout
the rest of the year, largely be
cause of greater beef output.
Pork production will fall below
last year's record as hog produc
ers cut back because of high
feed prices.
While prices for meat animals
have fallen, the department said
retail prices for meat, with the
exception of pork, have continu
ed nearly as high as last year.
The higher prices, it said, reflect
marketing margins above the
"unusually narrow price mar
gins of early 1951.
Agreement Nearing
