Be Kind To Animals
To the Editor: This is "Be
Kind To Animals Week" seven
days, May 4 to 10 in which the
people of the United States and
Canada rededicate-themselves to
the principle of kindness toward
animals. The purpose of this
week is to remind the whole
public of the moral obligation to
be kind to animals. In many
cases the Humane Society is an
enforcing agency. We do, and
may make arrests wherever we
find anyone flagrantly abusing
or mistreating animals and the
mere fact that the person owns
the animal won't help him
escape conviction in a court of
law, either.
Usually, though, we let off an
offender with a reprimand the
first time. We're trying to edu
cate, not to punish. But where
there is repeated cruelty, or in
flagrant cases, we go the limit
we prosecute. In our book, cruel
ty is cruelty and suffering is
suffering . . . and we see no rea
son why a person guilty' of cruel
ty toward a defenseless animal
is any less a criminal than if

Chamber Directors
The Jackson County Chamber
of Commerce board of directors
Friday passed a resolution ad
dressed to the Civil Aeronautics
Board, asking that airline serv
ice between Medford and Klam
ath Falls be Inaugurated on a
temporary basis "at the earliest
possible moment."
The resolution followed by
about a week of joint meeting
of the chamber's aviation com
mittee with that of the Klamath
County Chamber of Commerce.
In the resolution, the cham
ber's board pointed out that Med
ford and Klamath Falls are both
trading centers, doing a retail
trade sales business of some $60,
000,000 or more each per year,
both are distant from metropoli
tan trade areas, and that the
economy of the area requires
frequent travel and mail and
telephone communications.
Community of Interest
There is a great community
of interest between the two
areas, the resolution points out,
but the Cascade mountains sepa
rate them, and aside from bus
or auto travel over a narrow,
hazardous road, the only method
of transportation between the
two is by air.

one common tie . . . to protect
them, to make their lot an
easier one. So, let's all be kind

To the Editor: I am an "old
man" who has had many trou
bles, that never come to pass. Too
often we build huge mountains
in life's pathway.to find the "hi
way" is level and reasonable.
Looking back to the records, I
am amazed that people would
hear the call of organized union
leaders, of which most cannot
speak the English language clear.
Let me give you some figures
straight from the records:
Back in the early twenties,
Henry Ford paid an average
wage of $5 per day. At that time
you could buy a Ford automobile
for $475. Today, union leaders
tell their members, "Look what
we done for you, we got you $14
a day wages."
Now, let us look at the record:
The price of a Ford today is
$2,200, which requires 156 work
ing days at $14 a day to pur
chase. I would like to ask the good
union laborer "who cheated you
out of that 61 days of hard
labor?"
Yes, you, Mr. Labor, have al
lowed "fee" to the man who
has swindled, cheated and de
ceived you out of your own hard
labor.
Let me go farther: "Business"
is like an "old woman," and I
nave had a lot of experience with
her. In closing I would like to
add this: Labor should be proud
someone who has brains enough
to handle money, might create
employment for him or her.
Let us vote for Taft, we know
him.
