Taft Gradually Loses Lead
Thus the Massachusetts score
In delegates stood Eisenhower,
29; Taft, three; not formally
committed, six.
Eisenhower gradually has
overcome Taft's long lead in
committed delegate strength and
there was rejoicing In the gen
eral's headquarters. Taft man
agers, however, believe Massa
chusetts returns will prove to
be the final sunburst of big
Eisenhower gains. It definitely
was the last direct primary con
test between the senator and the
gpneral.
Taft Advantage Seen
From there on the battle for
delegates largely will be In state
conventions where Taft's strong
position with the party organi
zation should be a considerable
advantage. The claims of Taft
managers that they will go into
the Republican convention with
around 600 votes are not stated
in detail but with impressive
confidence.
Old, Ornate Organ
On Display at Store
An ornate, 100-year-old organ
is now on display at the Puruck-
er Piano house. The instrument,
in excellent playing condition.
is much wider and higher than
the average organ. The keyboard
has five octaves instead of four
as most old organs have.
The Puruckers believe the en
tire case is solid rosewood. The
intricately designed top part of
the organ case can be removed.
This part is designed like an old
sideboard buffet. There are
knobs, carving and cupolas, and
two cupboards with beveled mir
rors. At the center back is a half
circle bevel mirror.
The organ was manufactured
by Story and Clark company,
Chicago, which is still in busi
ness, according to the Puruck
ers. The Medford store obtained
the organ recently In a trade-in
on a new piano.
