Bandon Man Killed
In Car-Truck Wreck
Coquille (U.R) Daniel Harri
son Blake, 41, Bandon, was kill
ed Friday night when his car
smashed head-on into a loaded
log truck on the coast highway
just outside of Coquille,
The driver of the truck, Earl
Clifton Hartley, Coquille, said
he saw Blake's vehicle come
around a curve and onto the
straightaway, then drift "square
ly" in front of the truck on the
wrong side of the pavement.
Sgt. Howard Marsh of the Ore
gon State police said he had evi
dence that Blake had been drink
ing and officers had been at
temping to chase down a car re
sembling Blake's after other mo
torists reported it was being driv
en erratically.
The United States Army es
tablished a post at Benicia,
Calif., on April 30, 1849.
