May Fellowship Luncheon
Planned by Church Council
Final plans for the annual May Fellowship luncheon are be
ing completed, according to Mrs. Owen Kunkel, chairman for the
event Sponsored each year by Medford Council of Church Women,
the luncheon is set for May 2 at 12:30 p.m.
The fact that the luncheon
will this year be held in the new
building of the Presbyterian
church, adds Interest to the oc
casion. The dining hall will be
decorated with spring flowers
and Mrs. M. E. Cands and Mrs.
L. D. Inskeep are in charge of

Honor Thompsons
At Dinner Sunday
Seventy members and guests
attended a meeting of Colonel
Sargent camp and auxiliary,
United Spanish War Veterans,
held at Redman hall last Sun
day. A dinner which preceded the
meeting honored Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Thompson, Ashland, on
their golden wedding anniver
sary. The hall and dining room
were decorated with yellow and
white flowers and gold tapers.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were
presented a wedding cake dec
orated in the anniversary theme.
Mrs. William Hill, auxiliary mu
sician, sang during dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were
escorted to the presidential sta
tion during the meeting by the
colors and given the triumphal
arch. Mrs. Harry Barncburg, a
past president, presented the
couple with a gift from auxiliary
members.
Special guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Thompson were their son-
in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Edwards of Prinevillo and
their son, Ernest Edwards.
Mrs. Helen Keesee was in
stalled auxiliary chaplain by
Mrs. Barneburg, installing offi
cer. Mrs. Mildred Tolle, presi
dent, appointed Mrs. Winifred
Vail chairman of the forthcom
ing carnation sale, May 9 and 10.
Mrs. Tolle presented Mrs. Barne
burg with a carnation corsage in
appreciation of her chairman
ship of the recent food sales and
rummage sale.

Ancient Abbey
To Be Restored
Restoration of the Abbey of
St. Matthew of the Benedictine
Convent just outside of Trier,
Germany, is ncaring completion,
It is reported. The basilica of
this world renowned cloister
contains the only tomb of an
Apostle north of the Alps. The
monk's cells and the Abbey
Chapel have been completed.
The most difficult task, under
way at present, is the restora
tion of the dormitory, a three-
nave Gothic hall which is con
sidered the largest and most
beautiful of such early Gothic
structures, and has been de
scribed in art history as the most
magnificent interior hall of this
era in all Europe.
The damaged frescoes are
being restored by an expert of

Movie To Be Made
New York (U.R) "Faint Your
Wagon," the musical play that
opened last fall, is to be made
into a movie by Louis B. Mayer,
now on his own after many
years at M-G-M. Alan Jay Ler
ner, author of the script, has
gone to Hollywood to start work
on the screen play. He and his
composer partner, Frederick
Loewe, also have another Holly
wood job this year. M-G-M will
film their previous stage suc
cess, "Brigadoon."
Utah Town To Present
Ogden, Utah (U.R) "All
Faces West," presented in the
outdoor stadium at Ogden, Utah,
for three days last summer, will
be given again this summer on
July 19, 20 and 21.
It is a music drama composed
by Roland Perry of Weber Mu
sic College and describes in song
and narrative the accomplish
ments of Utah's Mormon pio
neers. Igor Gorin again will have
the part of Brigham Young.

Many Medford Senior High
school students are in Corvallis,
Eugene or Ashland this week
end to attend the annual Senior
Week-end planned each year by
state institutions of higher learn
ing. The young people are guests
in dormitories or chapter houses,
and are taken through a sched
ule of activities designed to
show the educational opportun
ities offered at each school.
