TAFT Supporters of Sen.
Robert A. Taft circulated a peti
tion among votere in more than
20 states "demanding" that Gen.
Dwight D. Eisenhower take a
public stand on 21 "vital ques
tions" ranging from the Taft
Hartley law to the firing of Gen.
Douglas MacArthur.
EISENHOWER Eisenhower's
managers maintained a stony
silence on the Taft petition.
Eisenhower was expected, mean
while, to close Tail's early lead
by picking up most if not all
of the 90 delegates at stake in
the New York primary Tuesday.
STASSEN Harold E. Stasscn
urged the use of Chinese Nation
alist troops In the Korean war
and said Gen. MacArthur should

fight with Kefauver later this
week with an intensive 10-day

lette (D-Iowa) endorsed Vice
President Alben W. Barkley as
the "best vote getter and strong
est contender" the Democrats
could nominate. He added he be
lieves Barkley will soon an
nounce that he Is a candidate

Asks No Vote
Morse has said he will return
home but only to ask voters not
to vote for him. MacArthur has
said he wants no part of the elec
tion or its votes. Nothing has
been heard from Schneider.
Warren's visit this week will
be brief. He will meet with Stan
ley Dean, campaign secretary in
Oregon, and will complete plans
for a campaign that may take
him as far east as Pendleton. It
la expected that his tours will
also include the Willamette val
ley and southern Oregon, in
many of the same cities where
he campaigned for the vice
presidency in 1948.
Claim Minnesota Victory
Minneapolis U.R) Boosters
of Gen. Dwlght D. Eisenhower
claimed victories Monday in
resolutions adopted in Republi
can conventions in Minnesota's
two largest countries.
Eisenhower supporters at the
Ramsey county (St. Paul)' meet
ing Sunday pushed through a
resolution asking that "all dele
gates from Minnesota to the Na
tional Convention should vote
for Dwlght D. Eisenhower on all
ballots after fulfilling their sta
tutory obligation to Harold E.
Stassen."
In Hennepin county, which In
cludes Minneapolis, the GOP
"urged" the 3rd and 5th Dist
rict, conventions to send dele
gates favorable to Eisenhower to
Chicago in July.
Douglas Aids Kofauver
Chicago (U.R) Sen. Paul
Douglas (D-Ill) assumed the post
of honorary chairman of the
Illinois Kefauver for President
club, backers of Sen. Estes Ke
fauver said Monday.

promote the presidential candi
acy of U. S. Supreme Court Jus
tice William Douglas is being
organized in Washington state,
Mrs. Alice F. Bryant, the com
mittee's chairman, said Monday.

Jubilee Sponsors

Of Other Groups
Jacksonville This year the
Jacksonville Lions club invited
various Jacksonville organiza
tions to participate in producing
the annual Gold Rush jubilee.
The club members have felt for
some time that this event has
been looked upon as a "get-rich
quick" event, officers said today
This year, by having members of
the various groups work on the
different committees, the public
will know that the profits do go
toward bettering the community,

man pointed out.
The organizations an individ
uals which offered their services
for the jubilee committees are
Mayor Albert Hackert and city
officials; Fire Chief Jim Minnis
and the volunteer fire depart
ment; Mrs. Francis Brisbine, Re
bekah lodge noble grand and the
Rebekahs, Mrs. Lois Fretwell,
Milwaukee checker-upper with
aching legs to check it for us.

Where is the Mason and Dixon
Line? No doubt a well informed

Funeral Arranged
For Talent Woman
Ashland Services for Mrs.
Rhoda Ellen McMahan, 89, Tal
ent, who died at her home Sun
day, will be held Tuesday at 1:30
p.m. at Litwiller Funeral home
in Ashland with Richard Joy in
charge. Burial will be in Moun
tain View cemetery, Ashland.
Mrs. McMahan was born Nov.
2, 1862, at Cincinnati, O. She
came to Oregon in 1909 from
Colorado Springs, Colo.
A daughter, Mrs. John Mur
phy, Eugene, survives.
