Oklahoma Again
Rocked by Cuake;
No Damage Listed
Oklahoma City U.R) The
third earthquake in a week
shook Oklahoma Wednesday,
but the tremor was too light
to be ielt at most points.
Capt. Harold Knox of the El
Reno, Okla., police department,
said that city got a "fairly Rood
shake" at. 12:05 a.m. and an
earlier tremor at 11:59 p.m.
Tuesday.
"The whole City Hall shook,"
Knox said.
An earthquake shook a vast
area of the Midwest last Wed
nesday, but caused only minor
damage. A light tremor was felt
at El Reno the next day.
Oklahoma city police received
several calls from disturbed resi
dents on Wednesday's tremor.
One woman frantically called
police and asked them to send
a scout car after she saw her
bed move.
"A man is under my bed," she
said.

The boy, accused of slaying 18-year-old
Mary Ellen Campbell of
Cottage Grove April 4, pleaded
innocent Tuesday before Circuit
Judge G. F. Skipworth.
Large Grain Deal
Made by Japanese
Portland (U.R) A $43,000,000
grain deal one of the largest
export sales in the Pacific North
west's history was completed
here Wednesday by the Japanese
government.
The big purchase, for May
June shipment, was equally di
vided between white and red
wheat.
It totaled 51VS cargoes and
about 17,000,000 bushels.
With Oregon's grain bins all
but emptied, it was expected that
more than half of the Japanese
order will be filled with wheat
from southern Idaho and Montana.

Retires This Week
Frank C. Loomis, Mail Tribune
linotype operator, retired this
week after 44 years In the print
ing business. Loomis has been
employed by The Mail Tribune
for the past four years after hav
ing worked here two years
previously.
He started in Eugene Job
shop in 1907 and received his
journeyman's card on Jan. 30,
1910. Loomis' first Job with a
newspaper was with the old
Oregon State Journal, printed in
Eugene on a Washington hand
press which is preserved by the
University of Oregon school of
journalism.
He has also worked for Port
land and Seattle papers, several
smaller daily papers in Oregon
and northern California. He re
turned to Medford from Eureka,
Calif., where he worked for the
Eureka Times.
Has Been Writer
Loomis has, at various times,
taken time out from the "back
shop" end of the business to
write articles and poems which
have been printed in various
outdoor magazines and news
papers.
He has been a resident of Ore
gon since 1889, and attended
Eugene public schools and Ore
gon Slate college, then Oregon
Agricultural college, in Cor
vallis.
Mr. and Mrs. Loomis, who re
side at 822 East Ninth street,
plan a five or six-weeks vacation
in northern California starting
next week. Then, they state, they
plan to settle down to tending
their garden and enjoying living
in the Rogue valley.

Paving of Medford streets
again was the main item of busi
ness last night at a regular meet
ing of the city council.
Following public hearings,
councilmen voted to go ahead
with five projects including Ha
ven street from Columbus ave
nue to Summit street, Jasper
street from Melrose to Stewart
avenues, Wilson place from East
wood to Keeneway drives, Fifth
street from Oakdale avenue to
Grape street and Washington
street from Main to 10th streets.
Two Continued
Two hearings on paving proj
ects were continued for further
investigation. A hearing on pav
ing of Haven street from Summit
tp Oak streets was continued un
til April 22, when the council
will hold an adjourned session,
and hearing on paving of South
Peach street from 13th street to
Dakota avenue was continued
until May 6, the next regular
council meeting.
Plans and specifications were
adopted for three paving jobs.
They are on Haven street from
Oak to Woodstock streets and
from Woodstock to Grape streets
and an alley between 14th street
and Dakota avenue and between
King and Newtown streets.
Petitions for new paving jobs
were received from residents of
East Jackson street between
Lindley street and Academy
place and on South Park avenue
from Catherine street to Stewart
avenue. They were referred to
the streets and roads committee
and the city superintendent's of
fice. Mains Hearing Set
May 6 was set by the council
as date for a public hearing on
installation of trunk water mains
in various parts of the city. The
streets involved are Crown ave
nue from Keeneway drive to
Oregon terrace, West Jackson
street from Western avenue to
a point 410 feet east, Western
avenue from Humphrey to Jack
son streets, West Eighth street
from Canon to Orange streets
and Lincoln street to Columbus
avenue, Columbus avenue from
Eighth to Ninth streets and Ninth
street from Columbus avenue to
Jeanelte street.
The council approved final as
sessments on installation of sani
tary sewers on Murray, Mt. Pitt
and Winchester streets, all frpm
Plum to Hamilton streets, and on
Hamilton street from Winchester
street to Stewart avenue.
Extension Approved
A 90-day extension in the
completion dale was approved
for paving of Murray street from
Plum to Hamilton streets, Win
chester street from Plum to Ham
ilton streets, and Third street
from Grape to Fir streets. Rea
son for the extension to Con
tractor T. Ft. Florcy was wet wea
ther during the early months
after the contract was let last
fall, councilmen said. The origi
nal completion date was April
30.
In other action, the council
approved appointment of Ralph
Moore as a fireman. Moore will
replace Ervin Clark, who re

bye My Fancy," Footlighters
civic theater play which will be
gin a five-day run Friday, April
18, are being held this week at
the group's new little theater
building at the fairgrounds. Bob
Stcdman, director, announced
today.
The play will be presented on
a split schedule over the week
end, April 18, 19, 21, 22 and 23,
with no performance Sunday
evening.

house, Pruitt's Music center and
