Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Hull left
Thursday for a trip through the
Sacramento valley, going as far
as San Francisco, where they
will visit with relatives.
Ed Robinson is finishing a
job of land clearing that will
put practically all his land in
to cultivation and seemingly
puts us nearer to our neighbors
across the river for since the
trees have been removed we can
see quite plainly some of the
homes on the south side of the
river.

In a recent news item in the
Mail Tribune the word septua
genarian caused some of us to
reach for the dictionary. Some
thought it referred to mode of
travel, some nationality, some
I to occupation, but Webster says
It means a person years oi
age, or between 70 and 80. We
have read the Mail Tribune go
ing on 50 years but this is the
first time to the best of our
knowledge we have ever seen
that word used to describe a
person's age.

has produced such satisfactory
results that Secretary of State
Earl T. Newbry said Friday he
plans to ask the next legisla
ture for authority to create a
! capitol police force of perhaps
half a dozen men.
These would include the cap
itol guide, who conducts thou
sands cf tourists from all parts
of the nation and many other
parts of the world through Ore
gon's capitol.

hired Charles Hamilton, 30-year-old
disabled veteran of World
War II, and Oregon's first "cap
itol cop."
In his brief period of employ
ment Hamilton has helped iron
out the traffic snarls which had
become increasingly serious in
the capitol area, and has made
noticeable progress, ' Newbry
said, in keeping youngsters who
visit the capitol in large num
ber, under control.

books were closed and reports

county chairman and was in
time to be included in the county
reports. Mr. Grieve extends his

March of Dimes Prospect total
$376.17.
