Climax To Argument.
Markham, a bright student in
Librarian Practices, from Mariet
ta, O., told police the slaying
came as the climax to an argu
ment March 27 between him and
his wife over her working and a
trip he wanted to take.
After the shooting, Markham
said, he contemplated taking his
own life.
He placed a pillow near his
wif e s body, then lay down on
the floor and placed his head on
the pillow. He put the gun to his
head then lost his nerve, he
said.
Thereafter, he said, he went
about his activities as usual. He
attended classes at the univer
sity, came home in the evenings,
ate his meals and studied as
before.
Bothered by Slaying
At bedtime, he went to sleep
in the bed with his wife s body
lying on the floor at his feet.
- Thursday, he said, the slaying
'began to bother me," as he
went to the home of a friend,
David Kronick, and told him his
story.
Kronick at first refused to be
lieve the bizarre tale. But Mark
ham finally convinced him and
Kronick then insisted he turn
himself over to police. . They
went together to the detective
bureau, where Markham repeat
ed his story to O Sullivan.
Medford CAP Cadet
May Get Tour Chance

school junior and a cadet in the
Medford Civil Air Patrol squad
ron, is one of three Oregon CAP
cadets selected to appear April
11 in Portland before the Ore
gon Wing Cadet selection board.
The board will examine the
cadets and recommend three to
the national board for an inter
nation cadet exchange program.
Last year, James D. Merritt,
2685 Crater Lake highway, from
the Medford squadron, was sent
to Denmark to study Danish avi
ation first hand.
Oregon Builders
Granied Pay Boost
Portland U.R) Construction
workers in Oregon Friday were
due for a 10 cents an hour pay
boost retroactive to the first
week in January.
The increase was approved
Thursday by the wage stabiliza
tion board.
The boost makes the scale for
AFL construction workers $1.85
an hour, except for those work
ing in sewers or on swinging
scaffolds . For the latter, the
scale will be $2 an hour.

Accident Victim
Is 50th Patient
Carried by Plane
The Mercy Flights twin-engined
Cessna ambulance plane
carried the .organization's 50th
patient on a flight to Vancou
ver, B. C, yesterday.
The non-profit firm was called
from Roseburg and the plane left
here at 7:30 a. m. yesterday,
arriving there at 8 a. m. The
patient, Charles Percival Moody,
was loaded aboard the plane
after being transferred to the
stretcher at the hospital, and
immobilized.
Moody was seriously injured
including a broken pelvis and
fractured skull about two weeks
ago in an automobile accident
in which his wife was killed.
Trip Back
The plane left Roseburg at
9 a. m., landed in Seattle for
customs inspection, and arrived
in Vancouver at . 12:15 p. m.,
where Moody was moved to an
other hospital.
The return trip was made
from Vancouver to Roseburg,
where Mrs. Marguerite Dorsey,
the nurse who attended Moody,
deplaned, and arrived here at
7:15 p. m.
George Milligan was pilot on
the trip and Tuny Bullis was
cc-pilot The fight was about
1,000 miles round trip.
Radio Studios Near
Completion at SOC

Oregon college will be the final
step in completing the rooms,
according to Donald E. Lewis,
business manager.
Acoustic tile has been placed
in the two main broadcast-studios
and control rooms, Lewis
said. Cork floor covering was
also added to decrease unneces
sary noise.

tables awaits inspection of the
plant by Grant Feickert, director
of radio station KOAC at Oregon
State college. Elliott B. Mac
cracken, assistant professor of
mathematics, will be in charge
of the technical details here.
Landing Gear Breaks;
Pilot Lands Safely
, Gary, Ind. (U.R) A pilot cir
cled Gary Municipal airport for
four hours Thursday with a
broken landing gear, then made
a belly landing when his gaso
line was nearly exhausted.
The pilot, Wayne Brodine,
Muster, Ind., and his passenger,
Paul Jankovich, Gary, noticed
that the landing gear was jam
med shortly after takeoff from
the Gary field.
They returned and circled the
field until most of the fuel was
usi up then made a belly land
ing and walked away uninjured.
The plane was only slightly
damaged.
Democratic Delegate
Candidate Visits Here
Dave Epps, Sweet Home, a
candidate for delegate to the
Democratic national convention,
was a Medford - visitor briefly
yesterday.
Now a furniture dealer, Epps
has long been active in state
Democratic circles. He said yes
terday he personally is im
pressed by the candidacy of Gov.
Adlai Stevenson, but is commit
ted to no candidate.
He came here from Grants
Pass and when he left here he
went on to visit other South
western Oregon cities.
