Medford League of Women
Voters will meet at the Jackson
hotel Pioneer room Saturday,
April 5th. Luncheon will be
served promptly at 12:30 p.m.
Speaker will be Philip Hitch
cock, state representative from
Klamath Falls, who will discuss
Oregon's tax structure. League
members here have been follow
ing the work of the tax interim
committee and are keenly inter
ested in the tax proposals which
will be submitted to the voters
at the November election.
Mr. Hitchcock is considered
one of the outstanding members
of the Oregon legislature and
his reputation as a speaker is
widely recognized. A lively dis
- cussion is expected to follow his
talk, and Mrs. Frank Fairwea
ther, league president, invites
all league members, their
. friends and any women Inter
ested to attend the meeting.

Delegate Returns Home
From Garden Meetings;
Famous Gardens Visited
Miss Claire , Hanley has re
turned to her home here after
attending regional and national
meetings of. garden clubs.' Miss
Hanley is vice-president of the
Oregon Federation of Garden
clubs.
She made the trip in the com
pany of Mrs. E. W. Jermark, Ash
land, Siskiyou district director
for the Oregon federation, and
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Franks, Red
mond. Mrs. Franks is president
elect of the federation.
The regional meeting was held
in Phoenix, Ariz., and the ses
sions of the National Council of
State Garden clubs was in Biloxi,
Miss. Following the convention,
the delegates continued to Nat
chez, which holds the annual
month of open homes during
March. The delegates visited 12
or 13 of these famous southern
homes and gardens, including
the DAR home on the site of a
famous old fort, and witnessed
the annual Natchez pageant of
Civil war days.
The delegates also visited the
famous Bellingrath gardens in
Mobile, Ala., known throughout
the.country for an extensive col
lection of azaleas.
f Mrs. Jermark, Miss Hanley
and Mrs. Franks were three of
Oregon's nine delegates to the
convention.

Announces Dinner

Teacher association will hold a
potluck dinner Thursday, April
3, hi the school cafeteria at 6
p.m. Parents of children in the
eighth grade are to be hosts and
will furnish rolls, butter, cof
fee and ca"ke.
Other members of the associa
tion are to furnish hot dishes,
salads, vegetables and relishes.
The meeting will ' include a
program planned by "dads" and
movies for the children.
Mrs. Jarman will take charge
of the nursery.

principal.
Mr. Gustin gave the workers
an opportunity to view the stage
setting for the operetta, "The
Tale of Peter Rabbit," to be pre
sented by the school the same
evening.
The chicken and noodle din
ner will be served by the PTA
from 9:30 until 7:00 and will be
followed by the staging of the
operetta at 7:30 p.m.
. School children will view the
operetta at dress rehearsal
Thursday afternoon to enable
more adults to attend the Friday
night performance. During the
operetta Friday night school
children, not appearing in the
operetta, will be entertained at
movies in another section of the
building, Mr. Gustin stated.

For Annual Tour
Ashland The Southern Ore
gon college a cappella choir will
leave today on a three-day tour
of nine central Oregon high
schools, it .was announced today
by Oscar C. -Bjorlie, assistant
professor of music. Twelve Med
ford singers are members of the
musical group.
Professor Bjorlie said the trip
is the most extensive ever sched
uled by the college choir and
the number making the trip is
greater than in years past Invi
tations to appear have been re
ceived from schools at Henley,
Gilchrist, Chiloquin, Bend, Red
mond, Prineville, Madras, Sis
ters and Klamath Falls.
The group will travel by pri
vate car. and will spend two
nights at Redmond, Professor
Bjorlie said. .

Sams Valley PTA Plans
Variety Show Friday
- Sams Valley A variety show
will be sponsored at 8 p. m. Fri
day by the Sams Valley Parent
Teacher association it was an
nounced today. Some 20 differ
ent acts,' including music, sing
ing, dancing and accordion mu
sic by Duane Hunsacker will
be featured. There will also be
demonstration dancing by Mary
Doland,' young war bride now
visiting her husband's . family
here, and piano .numbers by
Ruth Thompson, Gold Hill.
A nominal admission fee will
cover refreshments to be served
during, the evening. All valley
residents are invited.

freshener of the refrigerator are

The annual plant sale of Med
ford Garden .club will be held
Friday, April 4, at 309 East
Eighth ' street, between South
Bartlett and South Riverside

ennial flowers and the Garden
Center. The Center will serve as
an information center for patrons
