letting of a construction con
tract for the $16,000,000 proj
ect. Bids for the project were
to be opened Thursday at 1:30
p. m.
The suit would be based on
a contention that the PUD is get
ting power from the Bonneville
Power administration cheaper
than could be produced at Box
Canyon, he said.

nesday to put out a grass fire in
a place where the snow was on
the ground a week ago. They dis
covered the spot was where they

Friends Confident
Taft Has Nothing To
Fear From Eisenhower

Robert A. Taft's friends are con
fident the man from Ohio has
nothing to fear from Gen.
Dwight D. Eisenhower's home
coming to campaign.
The word in Washington Is
that the general is likely to re
tucn. Taft's friends indicated his
return would be more welcome
than otherwise. They believe the
senator would out-hit the gener
al on the issues of the day.
Taft Knows More
"Taft knows more about the
issues than does Eisenhower."
Sen. John W. Bricker (R., O.)
said in response to questions. "I
think the general's managers
would prefer now that he remain
in Europe as long as possible."
Rep. . Clarence J. Brown
(R., O.) said the people had a
lot of questions they'd want to
ask Ike.
"Republicans will not be
stampeded into nominating any
candidate who fails, or refused,
to tell the. people where he
stands on public issues," Brown
said.
Labor Stand Eyed
"They are interested in know
ing whether Gen. Eisenhower
will support the Taft-Hartley
act or demand its repeal, wheth
er he is for FEPC, civil rights, or
against it, whether he approves
or disapproves of the' conduct
of the Korean war.
"These are just a few of the
questions most Republicans will
want answered to their satisfac
tion before the Republican na
tional convention opens July 7."
Eisenhower's friends contend
that he has made a record on
the issues of the day although
they concede that many of his
policy statements are more than
a year old.
Campaign Type Speculated
Whether he should come back
to campaign has been the sub
ject of constant discussion among
practical politicians. The sub
ject of much speculation is the
type of campaign Eisenhower
would make if he did return.
Eisenhower's platform manner
is terrific. When the general
arises before a great audience
he is very likely to have it
cheering his way after a few min
utes of oratory.
Whether he is as good as that
in the more intimate forms of
campaigning remains to be seen.
It is in the smaller communities
and before the smaller audiences
that campaigners are likely to
be confronted directly with spe
cific questions on the issues of
the day.

starring Charles Laughton. It
will be presented in Churchill
hall auditorium at 7:45 p. m.

the film as a lavishly mounted
picture of the Tudor court fea
turing outstandingly beautiful
movie sets. Appearing with
Laughton are Robert Donat,
Merle Oberon, Gertrude Law
