High School Girl
Wins Trip to Ranch
. Jeannie Kagsdale, a Medford
high school Junior, won a week
end trip to the Bar-M Dude
Ranch at Gibbon, near Pendle
ton, for herself and three young
women companions, the result
of winning a limerick contest,
it was announced today. Miss
Ragsdale, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Jesse Ragsdale, 513 Palm
street, completed the limerick
according to rules of the East
ern Outfitting company; Port
land, sponsors of the contest.
She will visit the dude ranch
with her friends during the late
spring or summer, according to
her mother, herself a winner of
liUmerous contests.

House To Consider
Reclamation Funds
In Western States

scrape with economy advocates,

The House was set to consider
a $153,355,400 budget for Bureau
of Reclamation construction in
westeri states, with most of the
money for power projects.

transmission line program was
proposed by Rep. Norris Cotton
(R., N. H.). His proposal would
have cut in half the $20,000,000
new line program planned by the
agency.
Both Republicans and Demo
crats from the Northwest object
ed. Rep. Mike Mansfield (D.,
Mont.) said public power would
give his state a chance to develop
itself. Rep. Russell Mack (R.,
Wash.) said private companies
could not develop so large a pow
er network.
Southern Cut Beaten
The House also defeated an at
tempt to cut $869,500 from the
Southeastern Power administra
tion's budget for a transmission
line at Greenwood, S. C. .

Red Cross Drive
In Rural Areas
Workers in the 1952 Red
Cross fund drive reported today
that the campaign has been pro
ceeding against odds caused by
the weather in the outlying sec
tions of the county. They have
been hindered by snow, mud
and weather-damaged roads.
Mail solicitation has been tried
in many cases, they said, to
avoid the handicaps imposed by
the long winter.

Three Plane Crashes

Three plane crashes in the
Southwest claimed the lives of
16 persons Thursday but 45 pas
sengers aboard a Bran iff Air
lines DC -4 were saved when
their plane made an emergency
landing with a burning engine.
Eight men were killed, includ
ing four crew members, when
an Air Force B-29 crashed and
burst into flames near Davis
Monthan Air Force base at Al
buquerque, N. M.
Both military planes crashed
Wednesday.
Mexican Crash Kills Four
Four more persons, three of
them Americans, were killed
when a private plane crashed
into a mountain in Mexico, 86
miles south of El Paso, Tex.
: But 45 persons escaped with
a total . of only one sprained
ankle when their Braniff Air
lines DC4 made an emergency
landing at Hugoton, Kan.

In Head-On Car Crash
Four persons were injured in
an automobile accident which
occurred on the Crater Lake
highway near Camp White at
about 6:55 p. m. yesterday, ac
cording to state police and

Mrs. Elsie Carolyn Reiswig,
29, and her six-year-old daugh
ter, Eloise, are in the hospital
today. Mrs. Reiswig is suffering
from a broken right knee, chest
injuries and cuts and bruises,
and the daughter's right leg
was broken.
Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Per
son, occupants of the other ve
hicle, were treated at the hos
pital. Police said the accident hap
pened when the car driven by
Mrs. Reiswig passed two other
northbound cars, and collided
head-on with the pickup truck
driven by Person. Mrs. Reiswig j
was on her way to Camp White,
where the family lives and
where her husband is employed I
The Persons were moving to
the Rogue valley from their
former home in Klamath Falls,
reports said.
Police Arrest Woman
On Suspicion of Theft
connie jean ones, also known
as Bonnie Jean Lewis, 22, of
6151a North Central avenue, is
being held for investigation in
a larceny from a motor vehicle
case, city police said today. She
was arrested at about 8:15 p. m.
Wednesday, they stated.
The woman was arrested after
two men reported seeing a man
and a woman rifling cars on
East Eighth street between Cen
tral avenue and Bartlett street,
investigating officers reported.
Maybelle M. Rains,, route 1, box
174, Central Point, told police
several minor items were taken
from her car.
