IBC; Grand
New York UJ9 A civil
anti-trust suit against the Inter
national Boxing Clubs of New
York and Illinois was filed in
federal court Monday, charging
them with conspiracy to' "re
strain and monopolize" the
championship fights.
Named as defendants were
the IBC of New York, Inc., and
the IBC of Illinois which are
separate corporations. The Madi
son Square Garden corporation;
James D. Norris of New York,
and Arthur M. Wirtz of Chicago.
Norris is president of the . IBC
and Wirtz is his chief associate
in the operation of numerous
arenas and promotions.
Ashland Man Fined
For Drunken Driving
John W. Lybrand, Ashland,
was fined $150 and his driver's
license was automatically sus
pended for 90 days today. Dis
trict Judge Rawles -Moore im
posed the penalty after Lybrand
was found guilty by a jury
March 7 of driving while under
the influence of intoxicating
liquor February 16.
Judge Moore originally im
posed a fine of $250, but sus
pended $100 of it as a "gesture
of appreciation" to Lybrand, who
is a totally disabled veteran and
former prisoner of war. The
judge imposed no jail sentence.

Enemy Installations
On Korea East Coast
Seoul, Korea (U.R) The bat-
tleship Wisconsin hurled 70 tons
of high explosives into enemy
installations along the Korean
east coast Monday in retaliation
for the damage suffered during
an artillery duel with Commu
nist shore batteries.
Mud Slows Infantry
On the ground, infantrymen
slogged through heavy mud that
hampered transportation. Fifth
Air Force pilots took advantage
of bright sunny skies to hit the

Eight calves were purchased
by 4-H club members of Jack
son county it the first annual
Jackson and Josephine county
4-H and Future Farmers of Am
erica Jersey calf selection day at
the fairgrounds here last Satur
day.
The event, held tinder the
sponsorship of the Rogue River
Jersey Cattle club, was for the
purpose of giving young fanners
an opportunity to gain instruc
tion in selecting, producing and
showing top quality calves, and
was designed as an educational
program.
The calves were brought to
the sale by a variety of breed
ers of the area, and Jens Svinth,
Salem, former Josephine county
agent and now western repre
sentative for the American Jer
sey Cattle clubs, assisted.
Purchasers included Donald
Sommers, Wagner Creek; Peggy
George, Medford: Carol Nelson,
Eagle Point; Jack Wildman,
Grants Pass; John Foley, How
ard. district; Dentley Wagner and
Bill Monroe, Grants Pass.
Two Accidents Occur
In City on Week-End '
Two automobile accidents
were reported to city police over
the week-end. No one was injur
ed in either. Saturday evening a
car driven by Clarence Fred
erick Smith, 1554 South Colum
bus avenue, collided with a car
driven by Elmer Semisch, 525
North Riverside avenue at the
corner of Stewart avenue and
Beekman street. Smith was ar
rested for driving under the in
fluence of intoxicating liquor
and released on bail, according
to the police report.
Sunday evening a car driven
by Leonard O. Gaines, 1132
Spring street, was involved in a
collision in front of 510 South
Central avenue, with a car driv
en by Frank Yashin, 923 South
Central avenue, city police said.
Gaines was cited for failure to
give right of way, according to
the report.
