Pianist To Leave
For Los Angeles
After Visit Here
Roger Wolf, Medford pianist
now playing with Jan Garber's
band, plans to leave here Tues
day after visiting for a week
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
"J. A. Wolf, 718 West Fourth
street.
Before arriving here Mr. Wolf,
with other members of the band,
recorded in Los Angeles for Cap
itol recordings and on returning
to Los Angeles will continue to
make more recordings for about
three or four weeks.
The orchestra then will tour
with the band across the coun
try en route east. Generally
they are booked in the larger
cities for seven or eight-week
runs and while covering the dis
tance between the larger cities
they play one-night stands.
Before arriving in Los An
geles to make the recent record
ings the band played in New
Orleans during December and
, January and in previous months
had toured Texas, Kansas, Ne
braska, Colorado and Arizona.
Missionary Society
Announces Meeting
Chi Rho Missionary society
of Zion Lutheran church will
meet Tuesday, March 4, in the
church following Week of Prayer
services.
Members are to take to the
meeting articles for a box to be
sent to India. First aid supplies,
religious material and light
weight clothing will be accepted.
Mrs. Arnold Opgrand will be
topic leader for the evening and
hostesses are Mrs. Leonard Ol
son and Mrs. B. W. Niehaus.
Gardening To Be Topic

will be the subject presented
for members of Rogue-Elk Home
Extension unit when the group
meets Thursday, March 7, at the
home of Mrs. A. C. Larson, Sha
dy Cove.

City PTA Council
Sponsors Speaker
Wednesday Night
Melvin Murphy, director of he
Mental Health association of Ore
gon, will speak at a meeting of
Medford Council of Parent
Teacher associations to be held
Wednesday, March 5 at Medford
Junior High school girls' gym
nasium. The meeting is set for
8 p. m.
The Wednesday night meeting
will be one of a series at which
Mr. Murphy will appeaf during
the day. He will show a film
and a discussion period is
planned.
Following the meeting mem
bers of the council will sponsor
a bake sale to raise funds for
the year's budget. Only one fund
raising event is held during the
year, and each PTA unit in the
city participates.
The PTA council was organ
ized for the purpose of coordin
ating the activities of the var
ious units. Representatives from
the city schools, as well as Oak
Grove, Howard and Lone Pine,
make up the eight participating
units. The council sponsors ra
dio programs and speakers, and
works closely with Medford
Safety Council in an effort to
promote safety measures which
will affect schools and the chil
dren. .
Nichols Branch Club
To Meet on Thursday
Eagle Point Nichols Branch
club will meet Thursday, March
7, in the home of Mrs. Gertrude
Johnston, Nichols branch.
Last meeting of the club was
held at the home of Mrs. John
Bettencourt, Gregory road. Mem
bers showered Mrs. Ray Payne
with Gifts during the afternoon,
and also worked on an afghan.
Refreshments were served.

Entertaining Program
Given by Dance Satirist
Pert and appealing Iva Kitch
en, who pokes fun at serious
dancers with hilarious and fas
cinating results, appeared in -a
program at Medford senior high
school auditorium , Saturday
night under the sponsorship of
Jackson County. Civic Music as
sociation. It was Miss Kitchell's
second appearance here and she
was as warmly received as for
her first
Miss Kitchell is booked as a
dance satirist, but she is more
than that. She is, of course, a
dancer and an exceedingly well
trained and capable one. In ad
dition Miss Kitchell is a marvel
ous pantomimist and comedi
enne and has a personality
which the audience loves.
While some of the program
numbers were titled ' the same
as for Miss Kitchell's first -appearance
here, she had changed
and " polished the acts. Indeed,
some in the audience thought the
acts which had been in - Miss
Kitchell's repertoire longer were
better than the newer ones, and
there is some foundation for
this. "Carmen Kitchell From
Kansas," "Non-Objective" and
"Psychochondriac" were sharp
and well-delineated, but in the
last analysis, "The Vert Bros.
(Intro and Extro)," "Portrait of
a Hostess" and "Ze Ballet" are
still the best.
While "Psychochondriac'
brought lighter applause from
the audience than other num
bers, it has intriguing possibili
ties for an artist who is both
actress and dancer. In this num
ber ". Miss - Kitchell recites . a
monologue while dancing, - some
thing infrequently done, and in
many ways the movements of the
dance and the rhythm and in
tonations of. the voice comple
ment one another.
As before, the dancer's cos
tumes were cleverly designed
to enhance the theme of her
dances and her costume changes
between acts are still incredibly
quick.
Miss Kitchell was assisted by
Harvey Brown, composer-pianist,
who provides music, for her
dances, often composing and im
provising when nothing already
written seems just right,

Jacksonville a puppet show
by fifth grade students will fur
nish entertainment for Jackson-
ville Parent-Teacher association
members when they meet Wed
nesday at 8 p. m. in the school
music room. Larry Bruhett,
Medford, will sing.
A feature of the meeting will
be a nursery provided for young
children. The nursery will be
conducted at the school and will
free parents so they may attend
the meeting.
