The striking features of acet
anilid poisoning are (1) cyanosis
blueness of lips, nails and the
entire body surface, and (2) heart
failure with collapse.
The d.t who takes a dose or
several doses of the poison, un
der an, innocent . proprietary
name, for "cold" (whatever that
may prove to be), headache,
sense of fatigue, neuralgia or "in'
digestion" generally suffers from
progressive decrease in red cor
puscles for a year or two before
complete breakdown.
Acetanilid benumbs or dulls
normal sensibility to pain, ache,
fatigue, anxiety or other distress,
but it is not a remedy or cure for
anything, despite what the nos
trum mongers .tell prospective
customers..
Besides the immediate unto
ward effects of acetanilid there
are many cases of acetanilid hab
it victims who take it in one
form or another several times a
day and are unwilling to bear
temporarily the headache, ur
somnia, restlessness or irritabil
ity involved in breaking the
habit. Since acetanilid dimin

city of the blood habitual users
show progressive degeneration
of vital organs, notably the heart
and the central nervous sy:ey.'m
There is do specific remedy for
these untoward effects of acet
anilid no direct antidote. Of
course treatment in any instance
begins with immediate and abso
lute withdrawal of the drug.

Walls Torn Down .
Once the walls of three suites
had to be torn down to make
room for actor William Farnum,
Who arrived with 17 servants.
Hollywood life was gay then.
The management had to nail

Carrie Jacobs Bond was an en

stars, names of stars who ate
there.
