Bonanza's Antlers bave copped
the Klamath county title by
roaring through a three -day
tournament, but the big question
now is "who do they play next?"
Obviously they have to play
Rogue River's Jackson county
champs to decide the District 5B
title. But, they may also have to
go through the formality ,of de
feating Paisley's Lake county
"champions" also.
The question comes up every
year at this time to keep things
confused until the last minute.
Paisley, the only Class B school
in Lake county, has the right to
challenge, the Klamath titlists for
the distinction, a rather doubtful
one in the past, of meeting the
Jackson county king-pins . for a
state tourney berth. .
Paisley many times in the past
has waived this challenge right
because its teams have not mea
sured up to Klamath county
standards. This year Paisley has
dropped two lopsided decisions
to Bly, a team which finished far
off the pace in Klamath compe
tition. So it can be reasonably
supposed that the Lake county
school will waive its challenge
again this year, but the only
way to find out is to wait and
see.
ALL-STAR CONTEST
The Rogue River - Bonanza
playoff s e r i!e s In Klamath
county will be something
of an all-star contest. Three
Rogue River players. Jim
Boulter, Jim Wehren and
Ralph Milton, made the Jack
son County B league all-star
first five, and Bonanza placed
three men, Irwin Crume, Don
Hubble and Maurice Chandler,
on the All-Klamath league
quintet.

PULLED A ROCK
Speaking of all-star teams, we
have the feeling that the Jackson
county coaches "pulled a rock"
in overlooking Larry Jolliffe of
Butte Falls. If Butte Falls is able
to finish out its schedule despite
several postponed games, Jolliffe
figures to be among the top 10
individual scorers in the league.
Such an accomplishment surely
rates some consideration. In ad
dition, he has scored well against
all opposition on a team that has
yet to win its first game this sea
son. The boy may not be up to
first team mention, but we'd cer
tainly rate him on our second
string or honorable mention listing.
MOVING TO "A"
The other day we heard a
pretty creditable rumor . that
not only Phoenix but also
Rogue River,- may be among
- the missing - in the ranks of
Jackson County B league
schools come .next fall. Both
are expected to move up to
Class A and A2 rating at that
time, or so the story goes.
WIESKAMP IMPROVES
One of the most improved
players in Jackson County B
league play this year was Tom
Wieskamp, a starter at forward
for St. Mary's of Medford all
season. After transferring from
Medford high school last year,
Tom was ineligible under OSAA
rules. This year, at the start of
the season, he lacked experience
and got by chiefly because of
his size.
However, as the season pro
gressed, Wieskamp suddenly be
came one of the most reliable
scorers on the St. Mary's team.
Even more important, by mid
season he was one of the best
backboard men in the league
and was doubly valuable to his
team because the Crusaders were
woefully short of backboard
strength. He capped the season
by being named to the league's
all-star second five.

With high individual scor
ing the vogue among high
school players throughout the
stale we've done some rapid
fixe checking back through the
files to see what the top effort
by a Jackson County B league
player has been. While there
is no guarantee that it's the
all-time high, the files aren't
that actuate, the best we've
found was 44 pcints scored by
Jacksonville Guard Junior
Taylor against Prospect last
night.
Roosevelt- Takes
Jayvee Diadem
Roosevelt clinched the city
grade school junior varsity, bas
ketball pennant yesterday by de
feating Lincoln 21 to 15.
The Roosevelt crew is still un
beaten in loop play.
' Second-place Jackson - which
downed Washington 22 to 14 yes
terday, has lost twice to Roose
velt Jackson has completed its
season while. Roosevelt has one
more game to play.
Roosevelt led at the intermis
sions yesterday, 7 to, IS .to 6
and 19 to 9.

er Chieftains completed their
sixth straight Jackson County
B league season without a loss
here Tuesday night by over
whelming the Talent Bulldogs,
65 to 36. The Chieftains clinched
the league championship last
week.
The Chieftains now draw a
one week rest before taking the
floor March 5 and 6 at Henley
against the Bonanza Antlers in
the first two games of a best
two out of three scries for the
District 5B championship and a
trip to the state tournament. A
third game, if necessary, will be
played March 8 at Grants Pass.
Boulter Big Gun
Jim Boulter was the big gun
in the Chieftain victory as he
scored 25 points and dominated
the backboards against the short
er Talent team. Forward Byron
Kile collected 14 points for
Rogue River and Rollie Hartley
matched that total for the Bull
dogs. Rogue River out-tallied the
Bulldogs, 13 to 5, in the open
ing period and held at 25 to 14
advantage at the half. The Chief
tains were in front by a 42 to
27 margin at the third quarter
rest period.

Taylor. The five foot, eight inch
guard pounded the hoop from
all angles to collect 20 field
goals and four free throws for a
total of 44 points.
Taylor hit 20 of 27 shots from
the floor against Prospect for a
shooting average of .741. League
Titular Fracas
To Be Saturday
The Aanootics and the Hornets
will vie Saturday at 1930 a m. at
the senior high court for the
basketball title of the Saturday
recreation loop sponsored by the
city school system.
Last Saturday the Agnostics
won the senior division diadem
by thrahing the Comets M to 28.
They ended division play un
beaten while the loss was the
first for the Comet.
The Hornets copped the junior
division with five wins and one
loss. In a junior circuit finale
last Saturday the Harlem Coons
whipped the Bombers 46 to 16.
The clubs are cellar companions.
records are not complete, but
Taylor's point total Is believed to
be the highest ever scored in
league competition. His 44
points boosted him from 21st to
seventh place in the league in
dividual scoring race.
Skins Lead
The Redskins led throughout
the contest as they took a 21 to
10 advantage in the first quart
er and were in front 39 to 18
at the half. Jacksonville stretch
ed its lead to 62 to 33 at the
third period break and out
scored the Cougars, 20 to 7,
in the final quarter.
Although Taylor's efforts
were the big show of the eve
ning, Ron Craig of the Redskins
also had a good night as he col
lected 17 points to run his league
total to 135. Harold Setzer took
scoring honors for Prospect
with 10.
