A. Have you ever stopped to
think perhaps you are partially
responsible for your husband'a
drinking? Ha
knows how
you feel about
him and this
doesn't help
his happiness.
Furthermore,
he is worried
about the debt
He may see no
way out of
that problem,
and ia trying
to forget it by drinking. A large
debt can be a source of great
anxiety to a young man when
he has a wife and two children
to support.
Merely asking your husband
to stop drinking will get you no
where. People who drink do so
because they are unhappy and
are trying to forget their unhap
piness instead of solving their
problems.
You are not being fair to your
husband and children by falling
in love with another man. Even
if you have not told your hus
band about this affair, he would
suspect it.
Duty To B Good Wife
Your future happiness should
be with your husband and chil
dren, not with another man. It
is your duty and responsibility
to be a good wife and mother.
Make your home as attractive
as possible without going further
into debt. Be kind and Interested
in your husband and children.
Do all you can to make the home
a happy place for everyone who
lives there. Sincere effort on
your part may change the whole
situation.

C01TEZ IS GOOD fOR THE HEART

entirely to its
nervous system. For caffeine or
coffee is primarily a brain and
nerve stimulant
The active principle (alkaloid)
in tea is Identical in effect with
that of coffee, as is that of mate.
In fact much of the caffeine
used in medicine is extracted
from tea and some from mate.
Caffeine is the active principle
in Brazilian guarana. too.
Nervousness, irritability. Jump-
iness. insomnia, palpitation and
other disturbances of heart func
tion, digestive distuibances and
morning headache are the most
common manifestations of chron
ic poisoning from excessive cof
fee drinking. If the victim con
tinues to drink too much coffee
other symptoms ensue, but this
la still a health column.
A cup of tea ordinarily con
tains only a ouarter or a third
as much caffeine (some times
called the ine) as a cup of coffee.
Coffee contains a volatile oil
(like that of orange peel) which
develops the pleasant aroma on
roasting. Some physician be
lieve this oil accounts for digest
ive disturbances which some
coffee drinkers have if they in
dulge in a second cup. Roasted
coffee contains about 12 per cent
of tannic acid.
Although tea leaves cwttain
only about half as much tannic
acid (tannin) as roasted coffee,
the type present in tea is much
more effective, for Instance, as a
wet dressing for buntsfreshly
boiled (not Just steeped) tea to
keep gauze (washed cheesecloth)
dressings wet for a day or two,
or a kind of tea leaf poultice
may be applied over a layer of
gauze or cheesecloth.
The tannin in tea is much more
astringent in effect on the stom
ach and intestine than that in
coffee.
It is because of the tannin in
coffee that meticulous care is
necessary when brewing coffee
to see that it does not boil, not
even for a moment Boiling ex
tracts more of the tannic acid,
which makes the liquid taste like
soft-shoe chowder, and drives off
into the aUnatpher most of the
aroma, the volatile oil which
should impart flavor to the
coffee.
Neither tea nor coffee is a bev
erage tor children. Only persons
over 18 years of age may take
tea or coffee without Injury to
health.
The gentle stimulation one
gets from a cup of tea or a cup
ot coffee Is not followed by
appreciable depression or let
down. A cup to cheer but not in
ebriate is good hygiene.
Regardless of any brevons
the charlatans and nostrum
mongers have contrived to plant
In the popular mind concerning
the effect of coffee (or tea if you
prefer) on the heart, the truth Is
; that caffeine In any form has a
beneficent Influence on the
heart It tends to dilate the cor
onary arteries and thus permit
a better supply ot blood (oxy
gen) to the heart muscle. This is
scientific medicine, children, and
no long-distance "specialist" or
trick food vendor can dispute it
