Word Krafters Organized

has been formed in the county and the first regular meeting since
formal organization was held June 20 in the Girls' Community

meeting was held in the home
of Mrs. Lee Williams, 204 Crater
Lake avenue, May 10, with a
closed roster of twenty-two
members.
' The club originated early In
the year when Mrs. Ernestyn
Charley, Medford, Mrs. R. M.
Elrod, Talent and Miss Maud
Ingersoll Hawley, then of Cen
tral Point, met at the Elrod
home on Anderson creek. All
had been prize winners in "The
Great Gildersleeve" 'Name the
Song" contest held last fall. At
the Initial meeting contest expe
riences were discussed. Plans
were made to meet each month
and to invite others interested
in entering contests of that na
ture. Three orientation meetings
followed, each led by one of the
three founders. This resulted in
the formal organization of the
club May 10.
The name of the group was
chosen by the three organizers
since it was the Kraft Foods
company which had sponsored
the Gildersleeve contest, result
ing in the three becoming ac
quainted. The June 20 meeting was con
ducted by Mrs. O. H. Galloway
and high winners of the preced
ing month were honor guests.
They were Mrs. Loran Fowler,
winner of the grand slam on
the program of the same name;
Mrs. Alvin Minshall, Jackson
ville, who won $100 in a recent
Lipton soup contest and Mrs. El
rod, who had also won $100 in
a Rexalr air cleaner contest.
Minor winners at the honor ta
ble were Mrs. Marie Dizney,
Central Point; and Mesdames E.
A. Moore, Florence Laing, Lee
Turner and Harriett D. Hicks,
Medford.

Krafters club. No. 1, is closed,
members are interested in bene
fiting others who might be in
terested in such a group. A
Word Krafters club. No. 2, is
now being formed. Those inter
ested in joining are asked to

For Phoenix Couple
Phoenix Friends ef the Rev.
and Mrs. Henry Lacy honored
the couple in observance of
their twenty-third anniversary
June 26. The affair, which was
in the form of a surprise, was
held in the C. M. White home.
A potluck dinner was served
and the honored guests were
presented gifts.

To Hold Outdoor Meet
St. Mark's square dance group
will meet Thursday evening,
July 8 at the Elks' picnic
grounds. Dancing will be held

New Officers Elected
By Butte Falls Group;
To Meet Twice Monthly
Butte Falls Mt. Pitt club met
June 29 at the home of Mrs.
Robert Driskell. Election of of
ficers was held and these new
officers will be president, Mrs.
Roy Menter; vice-president, Mrs.
Kenneth Rodgers; secretary, Mrs.
Robert Driskell; treasurer, Mrs.
Leslie Casey. It was decided to
meet every two weeks instead
of just once a month.
Those recently celebrating
birthdays opened their gifts.
They were: Mrs. Bruce Burton
and Mrs. Booth Dyer.
Refreshments in the red, white
and blue theme were served by
the hostess.
Next meeting will be held
July 13 at the home of Mrs.
Elma Ellefson.

Visit at Summer Home
Mr. and Mrs. Ben C. Gerwick,
Berkeley, Cal., arrived in the
valley last week, accompanied
by Mr. and Mrs. Ben C. Ger
wick Jr., their son and daughter-in-law,
of Oakland, Cal.; and
Mr. and Mrs. Paul G. Morken,
their daughter and son-in-law,
also from Oakland. In the party
were Beverly and Virginia Ger
wick, daughters of the Ben C.
Gerwicks Jr.; and Paul Morken
Jr., and Celia Morken, daugh
ter and son of senior Morkens.
The group is staying at the
elder Gerwick s summer home
at the fork of the Big and Little
Applegate rivers.
During their stay, they are
also visiting Mr. and Mrs. James
Miller Jr., and children, James
III, Stephen, John and Marcy.
Mrs. Miller is a daughter of the
senior Gerwicks. The party plans
to return to California during
the week-end. I
