ciation this summer will conduct
services in the old city park at
4:30 p. m. each Sunday from
July 2 to September 3.
The speaker for July 2 will be
the Rev. J. D. McDaniel, pastor
of the Church of God, Medford.
Mr. and Mrs. John Eby will have
charge of the music both group
singing and instrumental num
bers. Music before and after the
meeting will be furnished by
Eby's Book and Bible house in
Medford. The local Gideon or
ganization will serve as ushers
in providing for the physical
arrangements.
The purpose of the project is
to use local pastors and church
leaders In providing a worship
service for those who do not get
to the churches and enjoy meet
ing in the open air.

With Archie Laings
Miss Joanne Gardner, accom
panied by Miss Luella Allen, are
visiting this week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Laing.

from Rio Dell, Cal.
The young women are both
members of the 1950 graduating
class of the high school in For
tuna, Cal., and are on an extend
ed tour of Oregon and Califor
nia scenic spots. Thus far they
have visited Coos Bay, the seal
caves at Newport, Crater Lake,
Oregon Caves, the House of Mys
tery at Gold Hill and the Trees
of Mystery at Crescent City, Cal.
The travelers also plan a trip to
Klamath Falls to visit Miss Shir
ley Hidenrich, and will also
spend some time in San Fran
cisco and the bay area before
going to Eureka, Cal., where
they will be employed for the
remainder of the summer.
In the fall both plan to enter
college in San Francisco.

Home From Trip,
Museum Visited
Gold Hill Artist Fritz Wertz
and Mrs. Wertz returned to Gold
Hill this week after a business
and vacation trip north. Satur
day they were luncheon guests
of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Dolph,
curators of the Maryhill Muse
um of Fine Arts at Maryhill,
Wash.
Mr. Wertz displayed his new
collection of Jacksonville street
scenes, recently painted, and the
museum added one of his water
colors to its permanent collec
tion. Mr. Wertz reports that Mr.
Dolph has been fortunate in ob
taining 65 original oil paintings
from a noted European collec
tion, and these will be on exhibit
for the public at the museum all
this summer. Of the 65, the
Gold Hill artist states that he
particularly enjoyed two strong
portraits of men of old, painted
by Jusepe de Ribera (1582-1652
Spanish school); "The Lord" and
"Madonna," by Murillo (1618
1682 Spanish), and a marine
painting by Claude Lorraine
Gclle (1600-1652 French).
He also was especially inter
ested in one entitled "Paradise"
painted by Jan Breughel the el
der (1568-1652 Flemish) and
"The Departure of the Prodigal
Son" by Jan van der Heyden
(Dutch school, 1637-1712). Oth
ers in the collection are by the
famed Dirck Hals, Frans Hals,
Rubens, Anton van Dyck, Titian
and Daumier.
The artist was invited to ex
hibit his watercolors at the Kit
son Springs hotel as part of the
entertainment of the installation
dinner of Oakridge Lady Lions.
He showed his Jacksonville
street series as well as a number
of Rogue valley farms and Ore
gon coast paintings and gave (
humorous talk, playing up
southern Oregon scenic and his
torical points of Interest.
Former Residents
Visitors in Medford
Mrs. Mildred Hornecker and
10-year-old daughter, Judy, Port
land, former Medford residents,
arrived Tuesday to be here sev
eral days on business and to
visit friends. Miss Hornecker had
appeared Saturday in Portland
in her fourth piano recital for
the season. Playing classical se
lections her program was about
an hour in length. She also
played in a three-piano presen
tation. She studies under Miss
Georgia Rich, Portland.

ford Duplicate Bridge club Tues
day, scoring 48 V4 points.
Mrs. Paul Hatton and her part
ner, Roy Pruitt, were second
with 45V4 and in third place were
Mr. and Mrs. C. Rease Braley,
their score being 42 points.
Fourth went to Colonel G. R.
Owens and Jack Barr, who scor
ed 41V4 points, and William
Isaacs and Mrs. Van Gilbert were
fifth with 40V4 points.
The club announces that play
will not be held Tuesday, July 4.
