A few of Judy Garland's co
workers said today they wished
"M G M would
stop picking
on her" and
give her a
chance to get
well.

sprawling lot
where Judy grew up, said there
isn't an employee on the place
who isn't pulling for the girl
who tried to kill herself last
week.
"The executives out here are
telling everybody they suspend
ed her because she embarrassed
and inconvenienced them," one
young actress fumed. "They say
she lowers the morale.
"Well, let me tell you this:
I'm one of Judy's co-workers
and I know most of the others.
And we all think very highly
of her both as a person and as
a trouper."
Another bit player said the
way they're treating Miss Gar
land "gives me a pain."
"They won't leave her alone
until she drops dead," she mut
tered. Unfair, Too
A pretty young blonde, who
said she's "had bits" in most of
the Garland movies, 1 h i n k s
1 MGM is "not only ungrateful
but unfair."
"Judy has always been a big
box-office draw," she said. "She

made millions for those guys at
the top. And they better not for

Not only her co-workers but
her fans are rallying around the
big-eyed singing star who's still
resting from her near-tragic
suicide attempt.
Letters are pouring in by the
hundreds. Offers of high-paying
jobs are flooding in from theater
owners and radio stations from
as far away as London.
"Judy was always doing nice
things for little people," an ex
tra at MGM explained. She'd
lend you money if you needed it
and then act embarrassed
when when you came to pay it
back.
"If you were just down in the
dumps she'd knock herself out
to cheer you up. And sometimes
that's more valuable than
money."
DEFENDANTS DISMISSED
Dean A. Duffield and W. W.
Robinson, who were co-defendants
with Mrs. Ora M. Duffield
in a rent overcharge case heard
in federal court here May 31,
have been dismissed as defend
ants, according to a judgment
received by George A. Codding,
attorney for the defendants.
Judge James Alger Fee ruled
that Robinson and' Duffield were
not sufficiently connected with
the case to be named as co
defendants. The judgment was
entered earlier this month.
Boston (U.R) There's monkey
business again this year at
Franklin Park zoo. Bowing to
popular demand, mostly by chil
dren, the zoo has imported a
dozen simians, first to appear
since 1943.
