Benefit Lectures;
Party Is Planned
Dates for the Shakespearian
lectures which Dr. Margery Bai
ley of Stanford university will
give in Medford thu summer

committee sponsoring Dr. Bai
ley's appearance here. The lees
tures will be given July 14, 16
and 17 and are planned with the
double purpose of providing
background Information for the
four plays which are to be pro
duced this summer by the Shake
spearean Festival association In
Ashland and of setting up a
scholarship fund.
The first and third lectures
will be at the Esquire theater and
the second will be given In con
nection with a large party at the
country home of Mr. and Mrs.
Alfred S. V. Carpenter, Top
sides. July 14 Dr. Bailey will lec
ture on "As You Like It" and
"Comedy of Errors" and on July
17 she will speak on "Henry
IV" part one, and "Antony and
Cleopatra.
The lecture at the party, to
be held Sunday, July 18, will
be in a general vein with Dr.
Bailey speaking about Shake
apeare's play and and the fes
tival. Dr. Bailey, who is on the
faculty of the English depart
ment of Stanford university, Is
an outstanding authority on
Shakespeare and an actress of
much ability as well as being
an authoritative and entertaining
lecturer.
When the Medford committee
has funds sufficient for schol
arships, a plan of aiding students
who come to Ashland in the sum
mer to study and act in the fes
tival plays will be worked out.

a ceremony held June 14 in
Reno, Nev.
The bride's gown was of white
taffeta and she wore a corsage
of pink rosebuds and sweet peas.
The bridegroom Is a son of
Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Wilson,
232 Janney lane. He is a grad
uate of Medford senior high
school and attended Southern
Oregon college. He has been em
ployed at the Medford post of
fice. The bridegroom's mother was
in Reno to attend the wedding.
The couple will be at home at

of her wedding to Donald F,
Siddens, which took place Wed
nesday, June 21, In St. Michael
and All Angel's Episcopal
church in Portland. The bride
groom is a son of Mr. and Mra.
A. E. Siddens, Portland.
The service was read at 8
o'clock In the evening by the
Rev. George Turney, former rec
tor of St. Mark's church here.
Mr. Deaver gave his daughter
in marriage.
For her wedding the bride
wore a white satin gown with
nylon net yoke trimmed with
venentian lace, and a chapel
train. A headpiece of white satin
and matching Venetian lace held
a short veil of nylon net, and
the bride carried a white orchid
on a prayer book.
Mrs. R. D. Hollenbeck of
Medford was matron-of-honor
for the bride. She wore a frock
of green dotted organdy with
headdress of flowers in halo ef
fect and her lace gloves matched
her dress. She carried sweet
peas.
Mrs. H. C. Bernash and Mrs.
M. C. Schultz, both of Portland,
were bridesmaids. Mrs. Bernash
wore a yellow gown matching
that of the matron-of-honor with
yellow foral headdress and yel
low lace gloves. Mrs. Schultz's
gown was of orchid color of
similar design and she wore or
chid lace gloves and a floral
headdress. Both carried bou
quets of sweet peas.
John A. Siddens was best
man for his brother and ushers
were H. C. Bernash and Richard
A. Dawson.
The reception which followed
was in the parish house. Mrs.
C. A. Woodford, aunt of the
bride, and Mrs. Carl Rasmussen
poured. Mrs. Richard A. Daw
son cut the wedding cake. Mrs.
Phil Barnett and Miss Cecelia
Nissl presided at the punch
bowl.
Standards of white flowers
decorated the church and the
service was read by candlelight.
In the reception room a fan-
shaped floral arrangement pro
vided a background for the re
ceiving line, and on the refresh
ment table white sweet peas en
circled the wedding cake.
Mr. and Mrs. Siddens traveled
down the Oregon and California
coast for their wedding trip,
and will be at home at 1024
Southwest Harrison in Portland.
The bride is a graduate of
Medford high school and is em
ployed as a bookkeeper at the
Mobilift corporation in Port
land. Mr. Siddens is a graduate
of Lincoln high school, Port
land, and Is a senior at Pacific
university. Forest Grove, where
he is majoring in optometry.

both in Portland for the wed
ding and among the guests were

North Hollywood, aunt and un
cle of the bride; Mrs. Pat Grant,

ity. Mr. Wilcox is a navy veteran,
having served three and one-half
years and spending considerable
time in the Pacific theater. He
has studied electrical engineer
ing at both Southern Oregon col
lege and Oregon State college.

Mrs. Florence McVay and
Robert Guthrie were married
June 18, in Reno, Nev. The
couple had been accompanied
there by Mrs. McVay's son, Gor
don, and her mother, Mrs. Har
riett Haswell.
Following the marriage, the
wedding party left for San
Francisco where the bride's
aunt, Mrs. Mary Berry and her
cousin, Richard Berry, enter
tained at dinner.
The bride wore a gold col
ored suit with tan accessories
and an orchid corsage. The cou
ple will make trie:r home in
Corvalls where Vr. Gu'.hrie is
employed by Pierce Freight
lines. Mrs. Guthrie has been
on the staff of Rolland's Stu

Mr. and Mrs. William Stephen
Bolger of Yakima, who lived in
Medford for many years, have
announced the wedding of their
daughter, Jean Clarice, to Paul
Rice Walsh. The rites were read
Saturday, June 17, In St. Paul's
Catholic church in Yakima.
Mrs. Claire DuBois, aunt of
the bride, from Medford, was in
Yakima for the wedding. She
was accompanied by her son,
James Wright.
Mr. Bolger was manager of
the Penney company store here
when the family lived in the valley.

of Mrs. Albert Wormser of Los
Angeles and Indianapolis and

Miss Joy Lyle, Los Angeles,
attended the bride as maid-of-honor
and the bridesmaids were
Miss Laura Lee Swanson, New
York, and Miss Margaret Ann
Wagner, Los Angeles.
The bride's gown was of em
broidered organdy and lace made
on princess lines with a full
skirt ending in a train. Her veil
cascaded from a crown of illus
ion and orange blossoms and she
carried a bouquet of white orch
ids and valley lilies.
David Wormser was his broth
er's best man and ushers were
Hal Kanter and Carlos Morales.
After the ceremony the guests
assembled in the Green room of
the Chapman Park hotel for a
reception.
Mr. and Mrs. Wormser will
live in North Hollywood after a
honeymoon at Arrowhead
Springs and Apple Valley. The
bride, well known concert pian
ist, is a granddaughter of the
late Mrs. L. A. Philips. Ashland
pioneer, and is a grand-niece of
Mrs. A. Belle Anderson and Mrs.
Dora E. A. Wight, both of Ash
land. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. C. Tol
man of Gold Hill are cousins.
Mrs. Wormser Is an alumna of
Chapman college and studied in
New York with the late PIga
Samaroff Stokowski. She was
first winner of the Los Angeles
Philharmonic orchejtra's young
artists competition at the age of
13 and has since appeared with
Alfred Wallenstein and the Los
Angeles Philharmonic as a solo
ist. For the past four years she
has been the featured soloist
with the Meredith Willson show,
guest artist on the Standard
Hour 18 times and has appeared
on such programs as the Radio
Hall of Fame, Bekin's Holly
wood Music Hour, the Jack
Smith show. Command Perform
ance and the Ford Sunday Eve
ning Hour. She has played un
der several noted conductors,
and will appear with Arthur
Fielder this summer on the
Standard Hour.
Her husband, an alumnus of
the University of Southern Cali
fornia, served during the last
war as a captain in the signal
corps. After VJ day he was pro
gram director of Radio Tokyo
and had the distinction of di
recting a dramatic program.

Mrs. Jack Wormser, (Paulena
Carter) is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Fred M. Carter of
Sacramento and Los Angeles
and a member of a pioneer Ash
land family. Her marriage to
Mr. Wormser was held June 11
in Los Angeles. The bride Is a
concert pianist and radio artist
and Mr. Wormser is a producer
of television and radio shows.

Shakespearean festival in Ash

Two Showers Honor
Miss Marilyn Nkkle;
July Service Planned
Miss Marilyn Nickle, whose
wedding to Richard Henselman,
has been set for July 0, was hon
ored at two showers the past
week.
Mrs. M. N. Hogan and Mrs.
Don Newbury were hostesses for
one party, entertaining at the
Hogan home, Siskiyou heights.
Refreshments were served from
a table centered with a silver
bowl holding magnolia blossoms,
and white bells with satin rib
bons and lace completed the
table decorations.
Gifts were hidden about the
house, and Miss Nickle was
given clues written in rhyme by
Mrs. Newbury to help her find
each gift. A cabinet of the guest'
favorite recipes was filled and
given to the bride.
Thirty-five guests were pres
ent. Friday evening Mrs. Thelma
King and Mrs. Hartin Sands
were hostesses for a shower
which honored the bride-elect,
the party being at the latter'a
home in Roseborough addition.
The party was held in the
kitchen of the Sands home, and
Miss Nickle was presented gifts
for the kitchen of her new home,
these having been arranged on
the kitchen stove which was dec
orated with fruits and vege
tables. Miss Nickle's appropriate
corsage, presented by the host
esses, was of small radishes.
Sixteen guests attended.
