It won't be long now before
you will be able to fly from
New York to Los Angeles in a
little over 5Vi hours. If the
United States airlines cannot
get an American-made passenger
plane that can travel 500 miles
an hour they are going to buy
the British De Havilland Jet
Comets, which have attained
that speed in many trial flights.
Horses St Women
How often has your charming
matrimonial mate, while off on
a trip, lamented the absence of
a full-length mirror in a noiei
room? If she has frequently had
this experience she will be in
terested in knowing that a Japa
nese has invented a plastic full
length mirror that can be rolled
up and packed in an overnight
bag.
Asking
Queries from clients. Q. Who
wrote the song titled "My Old
Man's a Fireman, What Do You
Think of That?" A. Your query
baffles me. I know there was
such a song but don't even know
the words. Q. What was the
worst traffic jam you were ever
In? A. That would be the time I
was trying to get from the

Pals
We hear much about "pen
pals and their experiences with
that thing called love. How
about "radio pals"? I am refer
ring to those amateur radio op
erators known as hams." A
Hastings, Mich., wife used her
husband's radio transmitter to
develop a love affair with a
ham" in a distant city. The two
carried on torrid conversations
over the airwaves when the hus
band was absent, which was
often, as he is a traveling sales
man. Then one night while on
trip the husband decided to
tune in on his own wave length.
The conversation he heard be
tween his matrimonial mate and
her airwave sweetheart caused
him to file suit for divorce.
Asides
A. F. Bergman of Annapolis,
Md., walked 63 miles on his
63rd birthday, from Annapolis
to Washington, D. C. Mr. Berg
man made the trip in 11 hours
and 43 minutes. . . . Bald head
ed men rarely become chronic
alcoholics. The majority of
habitual drunkards have plenty
of hair, or so some research on
the matter Indicates. . . . Wonder
how Thomas "Tiny Tim" Jones
of Pittsburgh, is getting along
with his weight reduction diet.
Whem 'Tiny Tim" started to
diet he weighed 540 pounds. He
hopes to take off 340 pounds!
Among the Married
Ever know a fellow whose
first name was Hercules? I nev
er have. Never even heard of
one until I noted a report that
Mr. and Mrs. Hercules Dreyer
of Orange Free State have been
married 78 years and claim it
If a world's record. Seems to
me I heard of a United States
couple who have been married
79 years. Do you recall hearing
of such a couple? Maybe we can
win a stogie from the Hercules'
Dreyers.
Models
Not all the celebrated dress
models are statuesque types. In
fact, one of the world's most
successful models is in the cute,
little trick class. That is Bar
bara Goalen, who models In
London and Paris. Do not know
all Barbara's measurements, but
she is about 5 feet tall, has a 21
inch waist and wears n 2 1 i size
hoe. She became a model three
years ago when left with two
children to support. Her hus
band, a captain In the RAE. was
killed In a crash. Mrs. Goalen
does most of her morirling now
for Julian Rose of London, a
dress designer who is said to
cater exclusively to "small wom
en with large bank accounts."
Please Note
Regarding that argument as
to whether Cleopatra was a
blonde, brunette or redhead.
After hearing from many au
thorities on the subject and do
ing considerable research my
self I have come to the conclu
sion that Cleo was all three
She was born a blonde. In later
years she wore a brunette wig
And at one time dyed her hair
red.
