Try-Outs Slated
All Day Monday
Ashland, June 17 Try-outs
for the 10th annual Shakespear
ean festival here will be held
all day Monday, starting at 9
a.m., according to Gene Malecki,
Salem, public relations repre
sentative for the festival.
A large number of people
from all sections of the country
will try out for parts, Malecki
said, and many of them have
arrived in Ashland already to be
on hand for the occasion. Among
those who have indicated they
would try out are persons from
New York (the farthest distant
point represented), California,
Washington, Illinois, Wisconsin
and Michigan.
Some reservations for seats at
the festival have already been
received, Malecki said, the earl
iest date they have ever been
sent in. Five national magazines
Quick, Life, Opera, Sunset
and Theater Arts have indicat
ed they will have coverage of
the festival, and others have
shown an interest, Malecki said.

land. Or that's that is main
tained on Saville Row, London.
In a recent competition with 180
of Britain's best tailors, Edmund
Glazebrook of Ipswich was the
winner. Although his shop is
in Ipswich, Greenbrook learned
tailoring on Saville Row. Who
is the best tailor in the U. S. A.?
That query baffles me. How
ever, I can tell you the Saville
Row tailors once considered the
late Eddie Schmidt of Beverly
Hills, Cal., the best tailor in
America.
That Name
There seems to be consider
able disagreement among the
clientelle as to the proper pro
nunciation of the last name of
Napoleon Lajoie, the fourth
greatest ball player of all time.
However, Mrs. Irene Rooker
speaks with some authority on
the subject. Says she: "My dad
was Charlie Schmidt, catcher for
the Detroit Tigers in 1907-1908-1909.
He knew Napoleon Jajoie
for years and always pro
nounced the name "Laz-you-way."

top. The claim this time is that

Just heard of a four year old
collie, lost in Nova Scotia, that

us nome in Illinois. Distance
covered was 1,900 miles. How
do dogs find their way home
when lost at a place that far
away? Quite a few dogs have
done it. I figured it is accom
plished because the dogs are in
telepathic communication with

What vaudeville sketch holds
the record for the longest run
played by the same performers?
It certainly must be that hilari
ous sketch titled, "Dr. Kronk
hite," with which Smith and
Dale have been throwing audi
ences into uproars of laughter
for forty-three years. These two
brilliant comedians offered "Dr.
Kronkhite" at the Palace re
cently and it clicked as usual.
One older timer told me he had
seen this sketch at least seventy-five
times and enjoyed every
performance of it.

Where hats for women are
sold they always have sales
women. But in women's shoe
departments they always have
salesmen. Why does this situa
tion exist? Can't one woman sell
another a pair of shoes without
starting an argument? Or is it
that women prefer to buy shoes
from men?

territory covers Medford and

its Los Angeles office and prior
to that he worked in the San
Francisco sales office. He re
daces Tex Autry in the Port
land office.

to get acquainted in this area.

fire Girls held a food sale
Saturday, June 17, at the Val
ley locker.

tended the Campfire council in

meeting due to illness of Mrs.
Art Nelson. Plans for the sum

Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Bauer of
South Los Angeles, parents of
Mrs. Dean Kelly, and her brother

at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Dean Kelly.
