Japanese Actress Shirley Yam-
agucni, known as the Betty ara
ble of the Orient, was recovering
today from a minor emergency
She was taken to St. John's
hospital, Santa Monica, last night
lor the operation, and expects
to De released in a day or so.
She came here to learn how to
kiss for the cameras since GI's
have introduced kissing in Japan.
"Kissing on the public park
bench has become so popular

why I came to Hollywood, to

Loses Court Battle

ordered by the Oregon supreme
court to return a check for $21,
471.21 to the Rushlight Automa
tic Sprinkler company, which
had asked the city to eliminate
its low bid because of an error
in figures.
The sum was deposited with
the city with the low bid on a
sewer contract.

HEADACHE PLAIN AND FANCY
Headache is perhaps the most
common ailment known to man.
Although I have inadvertently
used the word
"ailment" here,
headache is
actually a
symptom not
an ailment. A
headache may
be due to a
variety of
cause s the
chara c t e r of
the headache
sometimes, but
Dr. Brady not always, in
dicating the cause.
In general, a headache is caus
ed by traction on sensitive nerves
and blood vessels and by tensed
muscles of the head and neck.
The general assumption that
headache is caused by increased
pressure within the head, is false.
This has been proved by experi
mentation. The sensation of pres
sure often leading to the expres
sion, "l reel as though my head
will burst," is nevertheless a
very dominant impression.
Transient headache, as every
one knows, may follow emotion
al strain, eye-strain, excesses of
tobacco or alcohol, noise and
other common excesses. The
cause of some types of headache
is not well known.
Migraine headache usually
commences in one side of the
head and may be accompanied
by disturbance of vision, nausea
and vomiting and prolonged dis
ability. The attacks are often fre
quent and unpredictable. Aspir
in, which may relieve a transient
headache, often has no effect up
on migraine.
It is probable that a great
many persons who suffer mi
graine headache do not seek
medical attention. Learning by
experience that the ordinary
over-the-counter remedies have
no effect, they assume that noth
ing but the passage of time will
relieve them.
A drug ergotamine tartrate
employee preferably by hypoder
mic injection, often affords rapid
relief from this painful afflic
tion. There are probably thou
sands of victims of migraine who
do not know this, but continue
to suffer out their attacks. The
drug is one which can be dis
pensed only by a physician.
Severe headache is sometimes
relieved by strong coffee. Moder
ate doses of aspirin are harmless
and often effective. As a general
rule, if a moderate dose of aspir
in fails to relieve a headache, it
is not likely that larger doses
will succeed. Personally, I de
plore the use of such drugs as
phenacetin and acetanilid often
incorporated in pain-killers sold
direct to the public.

During the past two weeks the
grades held picnics at different
places. The first grade picnicked
at the city hall. Second grade
went to Bybee bridge and had
lunch and enjoyed games until
rained out. Third grade went to
the museum at Jacksonville and
the new swimming pool in Med
ford. The fourth grade went to
Bybee Bridge.
Fifth grade picnicked at Ly
man's beach on Rogue River, the
sixth grade and seventh grade
went to Jackson Hot Springs
and eighth grade went to Twin

parents were also assistants for
transportation and supervision.
High school classes held an
all day picnic Friday at McKee
bridge. The sophomores and
freshmen picnicked at Jackson

nuses, ears and teeth often con
tribute to headache. Pelvic dis
sease in women and prostatic
disease in men are other causes.
Arteriosclerosis and hyperten
sion may be the cause of persist
ent headache.
A person who suffers frequent
headache is receiving notifica
tion of some underlying disorder.
A complete physical examination
followed by whatever special
procedures are necessary is in
order. Disregard of the "signals"
may be costly.
