When "Ty" Teorey returned to
his arts, craft and hobby shop
after a week of his annual leave
fordfmost of it spent at home in
Medford), he found an enroll
ment of 20 new men, most of
them working with wood.
In his absence the shop was
under Bob Wilhelm, Camp White
member, an instructor special
iziog in leather work. Another
new member much in demand is
Willard Abbott, who in civilian
life was a show card and sign
painter. Abbott is Just complet
ing a job for the Navy Mothers
which will be mailed to national
headquarters in Washington, D.
C. Scenes of Crater Lake, Lithia
park, the camp itself and other
Jackson county spots of interest
are pasted to a large book-like
placard and in letters of blue
against a whit background
Abbott has described the various
color photographs.

This is a fishing story.
The other evening, loaded
with cooking utensils, sleeping
bags and other gear for an over
night camping trip on the shores
of Squay lake, four gentlemen
who head various departments
of this domiciliary shoved off
after the 4:30 whistle blew.
They wen Dr. William E.
White, chief medical officer;
Vest Fleeman, supply officer;
Burton R. Sims, engineering of
ficer; and Ralph H. Ruff in, dom
iciliary officer. They were all
back home the following after
noon. Forty-two trout were taken
during a little fishing Friday
evening and Saturday morning.
Ruff in was the champ. His
take for the two days was 20
trout and none were smaller than
12 inches. Although the season
on the station was neither Len
ten nor the day Friday, the
smell of frying fish was notice
able at dinner time.
"Goldie" Goldy, chauffeur,
and his son "Butch" have had
wonderful luck on Squaw lake
this season. He is responsible for
the Big Four making the jour
ney. Leo Lamb, the young Bamboo,
never fails to win prizes at the
social events. He is often accused
of collusion, skullduggery and
other black art methods as a
result of his wins. He placidly
goes h 1 way and whenever
asked how come, he quietly re
plies: "That is a military secret."
Another fishing story. Carson
Mays, member of Company 1,
fishing the Little Butte with
Chaplain Anderson last Monday
on the parson's day off, not only
caught a limit of trout but killed
a rattlesnake with six rattles
and a button. Both men caught
the trout limit and they fished
the waters around Dead Indian
Soda springs. No lunkers just
nice pan size.
Al Dunn is a member of Camp
White, Company A. Been here
about IS months, now and his
right side (didn't work so good
for a while) is getting better
vry day. Greybeard Dunn
came here from his ranch in
eastern Oregon, near Joseph.
This lad is 73 with a ready
smile and eyes that constantly
twinkle. He told the story of
the banker In the town of
Joseph who 49 years ago robbed
the bank that he now heads as
president.
The American Magazine once
printed the story. Al tells how
this banker nearly 50 years ago
got mixed up with two other
men, held up the bank and in
the attempted escape one was
killed and the other disappeared
with $3,800 and was never
caught. The present leading citi
zen was captured and did three
years of a five-year sentence.
He returned to his homestead
and today is his community's
pillar.
Dunn was 40 years old and
the father of three children
when he enlisted. Passed com
petetive examinations and was
in General Pershing's head
quarters company. Served with
him the entire time that the
general was over seas and knew
him well.
The Dunns have sold out In
eastern Oregon and Mrs. Dunn
is now making her home i n
Jackson county to be near her
husband. All of their children
are living, one son and four
daughters.
"I like it out here. Maybe the
chief reason is because I am
getting so much better and am
regaining the use of my right
hand and arm," said Dunn.
Opal Knips of our switchboard
will leave at the end of this
week for California to attend
the Commencement exercises at
Chlco State college where her
oldest son will be a member of
the graduating class. Mrs. Knips
will extend her visit to other
parts of California and will be
missing from here for 30 days,
annual vacation.

clipped, so he walked away with
the instrument that did the job.
He told Judge Claude Cooper
that $1 seemed a pretty stiff
price for a haircut, unless it
included the barber's clipper!..
Griffin was fined $50.

Crouse registered two birdies on
the same hole while golfing. His
drive killed a robin in flight be
fore Crouse collected a birdie of
three.
