Plan Style Show
On 'Gay Nineties'
Committees have been an
nounced for a style show which
Jackson County Republican Wo-
men will give June 23 at the
Rogue Valley Country club. The
show will have a "Gay Nineties"
theme and is expected to attract
a large number of valley wo-

Miss Alice M. Ward became
the bride of Carroll O. Belisle
May 14 in Reno, Nev. Miss Ward
is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. D. Bowdish, Cherry lane, and
the bridegroom is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. R. J. Belisle, Medicine
Lake, Mont.
The ceremony was performed
at 9:45 p.m. by Dr. Adams, pas
tor of the Reno Baptist church.
For her marriage, the bride
wore an aqua gabardine suit
with white accessories. Mrs. An
drews Severson, Myrtle Creek,
was matron of honor and wore a
brown sharkskin suit with white
accessories.
Andrew Severson acted as best
man.
A reception for the newly wed
ded couple was given Friday, in
their home at 612 Park avenue.
Mrs. Severson assisted and about
20 guests attended.
For their wedding trip, the
couple spent some time in Mon
terey and San Francisco, Cal.
The bride attended Medford
high school and the bridegroom
attended Medicine Lake nigh
school.

Form Garden Club;
Officers Installed
Butte Falls Mrs. Clay Conley
was hostess to a group of Butte
Falls women Thursday, who met
to organize a garden club. Offi
cers were elected and installed
by Mrs. R. T. Nichol, vice-president
of the Siskiyou District of
Oregon Federation of Garden
clubs.
Mrs. J. F. Carson was installed
as president of the new club;
Mrs. A. E. Abbott, vice-president:
Mrs. Keith Scott, secretary
and Mrs. Fred Kincaid, treasur
er. The impressive floral cere
mony symbolized the various
offices and corsages were pre
sented to the new officers.
At the close of the business
meeting. Mrs. C. C. S:iter of the
Medford Garden club was intro
duced. She spoke on hardy per
ennials, their cultures and
habits. Mrs. Sater also presented
the women with specimen plants
for their gardens.
Mrs, Nichol spoke on hybrid
English brooms, illustrating the
various colors with sprigs of
varieties from her own garden.
Mrs. John Holts, who has devel
oped a garden using only native
material, displayed an arrange
ment of wild variegated ginger.
Refreshments were served by
the hostess with Mrs. Holts and
Mrs. Remcn5en presiding at the
tea table. The table was centered
with a miniature woodland
scene of moss, ferns and native
orchids.

Reports of both the national
and state conventions will he
given at the monthly meeting of
Medford League of Women Vot
ers set for Saturday, June 3, at
the home of Mrs. R. W. Grav.
Modoc avenue. The meeting is
set for 2 p.m. and will be follow
ed by a tea.
Mrs. S. E. Philios. leacne
president, will report on the na
tional convention in Atlantic
City, and the 10 delegates who
aiienaed ine state convention in
Klamath Falls will participate in
a round-table resume of that
meeting, with Mrs. Frank Fair
weather as moderator.

Portland Family Here
As Guests of Gilmans
Mrs. Leo Weidner and four
sons, Leo Jr., Bruce, Roger and
steven, of Portland, arrived yes
terday to be house guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Lester Gilman. Old
Central Point highway, and to
Join Capt. Leo Weidner, acting
Medford fire chief.
The visitors plan to stay un
til Wednesday. A number of
out-of-door gatherings and pic
nics have been planned by the
Gilmans for their guests.
Vacationists Return
Mr. and Mrs. Edward L.
Schultz, 412 King street, and
Mrs. Florence C. Lance, I2B
South Holly street, have return
ed after spending several days
vacationing and deep sob fishing
at Newport and Pepoe Bay, on
the coast. The party made the
trip in connection with the Busi
ness and Professional Women's
convention held last week in
Corvallis which was attended by
Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. Lance.

Graham who has enlisted in the
Women's Armv Air corps. She
will leave during the week for
Lackland Air base, ban Antonio,
Tex., for training.
Miss Graham has been making
her home with her aunt and un
cle, Mr. and Mrs. Fichtner. and
was formerly a member of the
Bear Creek orchards' office staff.
She is a graduate of the high
school of Carson City, Nev.

Son To Graduate
From West Point
Mr. and Mrs. Norman R.
Smedes. route 1, box 3B4-B, will
leave by air Monday for West
Point, where their son. Norman,
will graduate June 6 from the
United States Military academy.
En route west the couple and
their son will travel by car. mak
ing a leisurely trip of about a
month. They will come by way
of Montana where Mr. Smedqf
plans to Jisn.
Lt. Smedes has been active in
athletics at West Point during
his four years there. He will
have a two-month leave before
being assigned for army duty.

Annual Flower Show
Features Many Iris
Jacksonville About 125
named varieties of iris and many
other flowers were displayed in
the Jacksonville Garden club
flower show Tuesday in the
Jacksonville Presbyterian
church recreation rooms.
Specimen blossoms in the iris
group included "Lady Mohr,"
"Solid Mahogany," "Ola Kaia,"
"Mohrson." "Casa Morena."
"Brass Canyon," "Tiffany," and
"Painted Desert." which were
especially beautiful,, and lesser
known than many irises.
Also featured were miniature
arrangements of spring flowers
and shrubs. Flower and feather
corsages were displayed and bird
houses were shown.
Mrs. W. H. Arnold displayed
some of her Dresden craft ware.
A silver tea was served during
the afternoon. Miss Mollic Ray
and Mrs. Lee Port poured. Mrs.
Arnold expressed her apprecia
tion to those who helped make
the flower show a success.

Mrs. Ed Pease of Medford
was appointed right supporter
to the chaplain of the auxiliary
to the Patriarchs Militant: Mrs.
A. H. Hansen of Medford was
appointed flag sergeant of the
same order and Mrs. Warren
Hazen of Ruth Rebekah lodge in
Jacksonville was installed con
ductor of the Rebekah Assem
bly. Grand lodge and assembly for
1951 will be held in Klamath
Fa'ls. Mrs. Helen Davis of Sea
side, Ore., was elected assembly
state president.
Mrs. Minnie Bryant of Olive
Rebekah lodge in Medford re
ceived the state prize for the
best publicity during the past
year. Mrs. Bryant, who has
served as publicity chairman
for the lodge for many years has
received the prize before.
Odd Fellows and Rebckahs
of this district have planned a
picnic for June 11 at TouVelle
park. Families attending are to
bring basket dinners, and ice
cream and coffee are to be pro
vided by the IOOF lodge.

Miss Jackie Fortin, bride-elect
of Don Klingle. The affair was
a kitchen shower. Miss Fortin is
a daughter of Mrs. Ruth Fortin,
Brownsboro. and her fiance is a
son of Frank Klingle, Browns
boro. As guests arrived they were
presented small wooden spoons
tied with green and yellow rib
bon bearing the words "Jackie
and Don. June."
Gifts were placed on a table
beneath an umbrella from which
! small kitchen utensils were sus
pended. Appropriate games
were played and prizes were re
ceived by Mrs. Elizabeth David
