Madford Rogues will con
clude their brief home stay
tonight by meeting the Eu
gene Larks In a doubleheader
starting at 8:30 at the fair
grounds park. The local Far
West league club opens a
three game series at Redding
Tuesday and returns here
Friday.
By Hank Green
Eugene indicated It could lash
out with plenty of hitting power
if given the chance as the Larks
edged the Medford Rogues 12 to
10 In their series opener at the
fairgrounds ball orchard Fri
day night before about 1,000
loyal Medford fans.
Medford pulled off three dou
ble plays to help keep Eugene
under control in the early in
nings and in the seventh but
the Larks exploded with five
runs each in the sixth and ninth
innings to combine with a single
tally in the first stanza to cop
the close victory.
Good Local Fielding
A; i matter of fact the Rogues
pulled some of the best fielding
gems of the season out of their
bag of tricks. For instance in
the fifth Bob Haddack went
over back of first base to back
up Jack Cooney, on a grounder,
picked up the loose ball and
tossed to Pitcher Lloyd Jones
at first for the out.
In the same inning Al Bolen
backhanded a hard grounder
just inside the third base line
and threw the runner out on a
close play at first.
One of the Rogues' double
plays was certainly done the
hard way as Hus Stuart back
handed a grounder at deep
short, threw off balance to Had
dock at second who then
snapped a throw to first for the
second out.
Eugene Scores Ten
Eugene combined three dou
bles and a pair of singles for
five runs in the sixth frame and
then in the ninth put together
five one-bascrs, a fielder's
choice, an error and two walks
to produce the final six.
The Rogues picked up four
runs In the third inning on a
walk to Don Williams, Milt Mar
tin's single, Jones' reaching on
an error, triple by Stuart and
a steal home by Stuart.
Three crossed the plate for
Medford In the fourth inning
on singles by Williams, Al Bolen
and Bill Adams and doubles by
Martin and Johnny Popovich.
Rogues Tally Pair .
Two in the second stanza for
Ihe Rogues were made on walks
to Adams and Martin, an er
ror and Stuart's fly.
Medford's tenth run in the
seventh was made when Adams
drew a walk and Marc Gugli
elmo doubled.
