new types of machines this year
will boost the industry's busi
ness over the 1949 billion-dollar
mark.

chines are in use, including 400,
000 Juke boxes, 400,000 games,
700,000 candv and cigaret ma
chines, 290,000 beverage ma
chines and 1,500,000 of other
types, he said.

the penny and asks the question
either verbally or mentally. The
machine answers in one of 20
ways, ranging from "yes," "no"
and "it certainly does" to "some
times' and "it depends.'

construction, the American Mu
nicipal Association says.
The association estimated that
3,500 miles of city roadways, sec
tions of key interstate highways
that lie within city boundaries,
need rebuilding to bring them up
to acceptable standards.
Of the 38.000 miles of U. S
highways, nearly 8.000 miles are
inside urban borders and a not
