One Manhattan shoe store spe
cializes in shoes for women with
very small feet. It carries sizes
from two and a half to four and
a half. No other sizes are car
ried. It is said there are only two
stores in the country catering
exclusively to women with such
feet. The other is in San Fran

Many couples with two or
' more sons keep hoping their
next child will be a girl. Some
keep on trying quite a while for
a girl. As for example, Mrs. Nina
Piazza, 31 years old, of London.
Her first child was a boy. She
wanted her second to be a girl.
It wasn't. She kept on trying for
a girl but with no luck. Finally
she had six sons and no daugh
ters. Then she decided to try just
once more for a girl. And so
what happened at the next bless
ed event? Mrs. Piazza gave birth
to triplets, three boys.
Queries from clients. Q. Am I
right in saying there was a mov
ing picture titled 'Moonlight
and Pretzels?" A. Quite right,
sir. That was the name of a musi
cal film produced in the nine
teen thirties. Q. What is the long
est period of time that a subma
rine has been under water? A.
Couldn't state definitely. How
ever, the United States subma
rine Pickerel stayed under wa
ter and didn't come up for twenty-two
hundred miles. If that
isn't the record I would like to
know what is.

Fred Smith: 2. Charles Jolin.-on;
3. Henry Brown; 4. William
Jones; 5. Robert Wilson; 6. John
Anderson. . . . Lettuce is listed
in the "language of flowers."
The message lettuce conveys is:
"You are cold-hearted." Keep
that in mind, young fellow.
When a lovely lady fails to re
spond kindly to the love you of
fer, send her a head of lettuce.
Girls develop most rapidly be
tween the ages of 11 and 14.
Boys between the ages of 14 and
17. That's why the girls are al
ways the smartest pupils in
grammar school and the dumb
est in high school. ... It is claim
ed hay fever is hereditary. One
man of science goes so far as to
say people suffering from hay
fever should not marry as it is a
terrible ailment to pass on to a
child.
Predictions
Do you believe in palmistry?
I can't say 1 do, but I have an
open mind on the subject. Any
way, MHi'k Twain, In his "Note
book" published some years ago,
stated: "In 1805 Cheiro, the
palmist, examined my hand and
said that in my sixty-eighth year
10M I would become suddenly
rich. I was bankrupt and $04,0(10
in debt at the time. In 1903 Har
per's took all my works and
guaranteed me $25,000 a year
for five years and gave me as
surance the actual return would
be double tha tfor many years."
(Note: Cheiro did all right in
predicting Mark I wains imure,
but no with Mussolini's. He pre
dicted 11 Duce would die peace
fully in bed.)

if Kate Smith's first name is
Katherine or Kathryn. It is
Kathryn. . . . The best weight
for a man over thirty who is six
feet two inches tall is one hun
dred and eighty-four. So states
an expert on the subject. That
gives me a break. I am just about
six feet two inches tall and my
weight is one hundred and nine
ty pounds. I could easily take off
six pounds.

Lin Howard, California sports
man and auto magnate. Just re
turned from a tour of Ireland,
Franc and England. He was
shopping for thoroughbreds. Lin
says he likes Irish and British
racing stock, but not French. I
disagree. The French have some
good distance horses. If you mat
ed a French mare, a router, with
an Irish stallion, a sprinter, you
might get a useful racehorse out
of the mating.
