A new type of irrigation
surinkler pipes with wheels to
permit rapid moving from place
to place are being installed on
the Table Top ranch. Also on
the same ranch workmen this
week began filling the large
steel silo recently erected there.
It is being filled with the first
crop of legumes and grasses to
be used for feeding cattle.
According to reports several
of our citizens have not been
contacted so far by Uncle Sam's
census enumerators.
The Harold Davis family of
Ashland were Sunday visitors
here at the Milford Vanderpool
home.
New cars were recently pur
chased by the Ralpl. Reisingers
and the A. S. Fleischers.
The Jackson county road de
partment has a large crew of
men and equipment in this dis
trict rebuilding worn out road
beds.
The road bed is first torn up
with a scarifier then built up
with heavy rock, then a coat of
fine crushed material and later
will be finished with a heavy
oil coat.
The base is being made much
heavier than the previous one,
and is supposed to stand up long
er under jieavy traffic.
In spite of the strenuous ef
forts made recently to get all
eligible to register there are sev
eral here who failed to get un
der the wire.
Table Rock Ladies club met
May 10 at the home of Mrs.
Arthur Doty who was assisted by
Mrs. Ed Pierce. Mrs. O. L. Wil
son and Mrs. Don Wheeler were
in charge of the program.
Owing to other commitments
the next meeting of the Commu
nity club has been postponed
until Thursday night, June 1.
The program will be in charge
of the Teen Age club;
Farmers here are just about
getting adjusted to the time
change made nearly a month ago
but livestock and poultry still
going by sun time, the old red
rooster doing his crowing on the
same schedule.

The little girl, who would
have celebrated her second birth
day Sunday, was believed drown
ed when the car in which she
was sitting along slipped from
its parking place and plunged
into the lake in front of Mrs.
Carl's resort home.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Eaton, Portland, Ore., were visit
ing Mrs. Carl when the tragedy
occurred.

Hew Navy Reserve
Unit Formation
Scheduled Locally
Formation of an organized
electronic company of the Unit
ed States naval reserve in the
Medford area was announced
Saturday by Lt. T. P. Pierce,
naval reserve officer of the 13th
naval district. Men serving in
the unit will be eligible for pay
at the weekly drill sessions.
The organized reserve unit
will replace the ' present elec
tronics warfare unit which has
been operating for about five
vears under the direction of Lt.
Henry Fisher, USNR. The com
pany will be the senior naval or
anization in Medford and will
have general jurisdiction over
the present volunteer composite
unit and the Seabee company,
Lt. Pierce said.
Meeting Set
An organizational meeting of
the group will be held at 7:30
o. m. on Monday at the Federal
buildine. 33 North Riverside
avenue. Present and former
members of the electronics war-
fflP( unit are reauested to attena
and assist in the formation of the

Lt. Pierce said that officers for
the new group are especially
needed. A lieutenant commander
with classification D. T or C is
required as commanding officer.

The new unit will be the first
of its type ever organized in the
Medford area. Similar groups
are planned at Klamath Falls

day. A near-riot followed a cam
pus political parade here Thurs

it was stirred up by the national
secret fraternity's local under
ground chapter.

Legion Auxiliary Poppy
Days Set Next Week-End
The American Lesion auxil
iary here will begin its annual
sale of poppies next Friday and
Saturday, ana to puDiicize me

two members of the domiciliary
center at Camp Whjte to appear
in the main window of Mann's
department store tomorrow and
Tuesday for a public demon
stration of the manufacture of
the paper flowers.
The two members Mike Tan
zell and Harold B u n t o n, are
part of a group of 55 men at
Camp White who have turned
out 152,370 poppies this year for
sale by all Legion auxiliaries in
Oregon. The Medford auxiliary
will undertake to plant 6,000 of
them on lapels here. Auxiliary
women in the Oregon depart
ment paid Camp White veterans
$1,032.46 for the poppies, at a
rate of two cents apiece.
No Set Prica
There is no set sales price for
poppies sold during the annual
two-day street sales. Proceeds
are restricted to rehabilitation
and child welfare work of the
auxiliary. The funds go for the
assistance of orphans of veterans
or for the families of disabled
veterans. They also are used for
the rehabilitation program that
brings occupational therapy and
gainful employment to Hospital
ized veterans undergoing long
and discouraging months of con
valescence.
The two Camp White mem
bers who will demonstrate the
handicraft and skill that goes
into the manufacture of the pop
pies represent veterans of both
world wars. Tanzell served in
World War I and with several
regimental bands both during
and after the wan. His home is in
Portland and he has been at the
domiciliary center since March
1H4U.
Bunton is a veteran of World
War II. having served with the
84th infantry training battalion.
His home Is in Havre, Mont., and
he has been a member at Camp
White for 14 months.
