Area Softball
League Talked
Outlook for softball league
competition in Medford this sum
mer is dim, a spokesman for
the local association said today,
although an effort is being made
to organize a league among
teams in Medford, Ashland, Tal
ent, Central Point and Grants
Pass.
He said that a local league
seems unlikely as but four teams
definitely are Interested ana
two others might play. He
pointed out that at least eight
teams should be in a league to
make the sport anywhere near
a paying proposition.
Right now the local association
is waiting to hear from towns
contacted and another meeting of
the local group is planned as soon
as answers are received here.

It Is an old adage in base
ball but it certainly held true
out at the fairgrounds last night
"A baseball game is never over
until the last man is out" and
result was that a large majority
of the fans were not present
when the Medford Rogues won,
12 to 11.
The Pittsburg Diamonds were
ousted from a triple tie with the
Rogues and Redding for second
place and today Medford holds
second spot alone on the basis of
percentage points. -Two
Man Out
Two men were out in that
eight-run eighth inning last night
when the winning run over the
Diamonds was scored.
Marc Guglielmo, pinch hitting
for Pitcher LaVerre Herrmann,
opened that stanza with a line
single to left. Jack Cooney struck
out and John Popovich flied to
center.
However, the Rogues were not
to be denied as Bob Haddock,
Player-Manager Tommy Nelson
and Don Williams singled in suc
cession. That was all for starting
Pitcher Jack Hemphill and Char
lie Souza took over mound du
ties.
Bolen Walks Again
Al Bolen drew his fourth walk
of the evening as first man to
face Souza. Bill Adams doubled
to right center and Milt Martin
drew a pass to send Souza to the
showers. Gene Valentine, with a
season record of five wins and no
losses, then hurled for Pittsburg.
Gleason. pinch hitting for
Guglielmo who had given way
to Glen Hyatt as a pinch runner,
drew a walk and so did Cooney
up for the second time. Popovich
then came through with a solid
single to left scoring Gleason and
Martin with the tying and win
ning runs.
Lloyd Jones took over mound
duties for the Rogues in the
ninth and set the Diamonds down
in order on 10 pitched balls.
Herrmann was winning pitcher
and Valentine loser.
Adams Catch Tops
Adams made a one-hand catch
of a dipping drive curving away
from him off the bat of Charlie
Malemberg in the second inning
after running the proverbial
country mile into deep right cen
ter.for the best fielding gem by
Meilford.
The Diamonds had gone ahead
in the fourth stanza, 8 to 2, on
two singles, two doubles, a triple
and two Medford errors for six
Pittsburg runs.

Trouble galore faced Promoter
Mack Lillard this morning. Three
of his six wrestlers who were
scheduled to show in the armory
wrestling pit tonight have come
up with injuries. The main
event between the Great Atlas
and Leo Wallick is intact, Lillard
said with a sigh of relief.
Pete Belcastro, who was to
have met Karl Gray in the mid
dle match, suffered a wrenched
shoulder at Klamath Falls last
night. His place is being taken
by Jack Kiser, the all-American
boy from Vancouver, Wash.
Dale Kiser, Jack's younger
brother who only recently took
up professional wrestling, tangles
with Jack Poppenheim. Port

the Brooklyn favorite who is out
