All Morley V. King has to do to
get a $902.58 check is walk in
to the county treasurer' office

But Treasurer Shannon Horn

His wife, the onetime Com

atrangled here in July, 1947, and
her body was stuffed into a

Have recently read a number
of articles on the "teen-ager
gangs" of New York city and
the problem of handling them.
There have been such gangs as
long as I can remember. When I
was a kid. South Brooklyn was
full of them. The group of
youngsters I went around with,
known as "The Forty-eighth
Streeters." never went in for
gang warfare. Just defended
themselves when attacked. This
they did very well because every
kid on the block knew how to
handle himself, due to the in
structions of two former profes
sional boxers living on the same
street. So the tough guys in oth
er sections usually let us alone.
Our gang went in for sports. We
had teams in almost every kind
of sport you can imagine. No kid
on our block was even In trouble

Asking
Queries from clients. Q. Were
you married in a church? If so
what church? A. I was married
In the Little Church Around the
Corner, New York city. Q. Was
not David Warfield a burlesque
comedian just before he made
such a hit as a dramatic actor
in the David Belasco production
of "The Music Master"? A. Pre
vious to becoming a dramatic
actor. Warfield was associated
with the Weber & Fields Music
Hall company as a comedian.
This company included such
stars as Lillian Russell, Fay
Templeton, Willie Collier, Peter
F. Oailey and others of similar
calibre. It could hardly be styled
"a burlesque company" as we
now understand the term. Q. Are
you familiar with a poem titled,
"The Irish," which includes the
line, "When Greeks and Romans
still wore tails"? A. Don't know
the complete poem. All I know
of it follows:
When Greeks and Romans still
wore tails,
And banqueted on bugs and
snails,
Who ruled like kings in golden
vales?
The Irish!

Crabs
Some Manhattan sea food res

Dungeness crabs from the Pacific

ka." I like my crabs in a crab
meat cocktail. Will some expert
tell me what type of crab Is best

Newest Chemical May Do Away With 'Wash Day Blues7
Washington (U.R) Here is
good news' for housewives suf
lering from washdays blues.
The Department of Agricul
ture says there is a new way to
wash cotton clothes so they stay
cleaner longer and will be easier
to clean the next time.
All that's necessary is to add
a . "simple, inexpensive com
pound" to the laundry rinse wat
er. When the cotton goods dry,
the chemical appears to leave a
protective film on the fiber
which keeps dirt from coming
into contact with the cotton.
In any event, the cotton goods
after the treatment are "harder
to soil and easier to clean," the
department said.
Saon on Market
The compound is carboxy
methyl cellulose, or "CMC for
short. It's made from cotton or
wood pulp. It is not yet on the
market in packages convenient
for home use. The department

now that its use in laundering
is known.
The department said that the
addition of three level table
spoons of the stuff per gallon of
rinse water gives cotton goods
"improved soil resistance with
out changing the feel of the
fabric." Use of four times that

The department said the dis

The Institute reported that

using CMC doesn't get as good
