Washington State Leads

Bv United Press
Washington State was a half
a game ahead of Washington in
the northern division, Pacific
Coast conference, baseball race
today.
The Cougars snowed under
Idaho, 13 to 1, in Pullman Tues
day while Washington was eag
ed by Oregon, 5 to 4, in Seattle,

Pullman for the league leader
ship in a series that probably
will decide the champion.

Mat Clash
It probably won't make much
difference to the majority of
fans whether the Great Atlas or
Leo Wallick get the works when
they clash in the headline match
of Mack Lillard's triple main
event wrestling card at the
armory Thursday night.
No welcoming committees
greet Wallick, the Chicago Crip
nler. or the Atlas, self-admitted
greatest wrestler in the world,
when they come to Medford. On
the contrary, both men have
drawn the wrath of the specta
tors on numerous occasions.
However, when the hated
toughies attempt to annihilate
each other in the 45-minute or
two-out-of-threc fall session the
fans can set back and watch the
fun. Both men have hospitalized
many opponents with their de
structive holds Wallick witn
his nile driver and the Atlas
with his full nelson and Thurs
day' skirmish, which v
signed at the incessant request
of fans, should produce fire
works all the way.
Pete Belcastro. who wants a
crack at either Wallick or the
Atlas, will have a busy evening
when he hooks up with Eddie
Williams, the sensational Scot.
defeat by Williams would
erase Belcastro from the picture
as far as his desired matches are
concerned but the Weed Assassin
isn't one to let things stand in
his way when he wants something.
Poker-faced Ted Bell, Brook
lyn, will go against Karl Gray,
big Wisconsin farmer, in the
first bout, scheduled for the mat
at 8:30 p.m.
Grade School Baseball
Scheduled on Thursday
Four baseball games In the lo
cal grade school baseball league
will be played Thursday after
noon at Roosevelt and Jackson
school diamonds. 'Play ball'
will be at 4:15.
Lincoln will be the opponent
at Roosevelt school and over at
Jackson school Washington will
provide opposition.

Schultz, former Oregon State

yesterday on ground the defunct
Los Angeles Dons broke his con

Perry Slams
7th Homcrun
By United Press
A new. Far West league
home run record may be set this
season if Reading's popular
player-manager Ray Perry con
tinues to smack roundtrippers
at his present rate.
He got his seventh homer of
the young season last night in
leading the Browns to a 16 to 7
victory over the Reno Silversox.
The game featured poor pitch
ing and numerous errors. A to
tal of 27 bases on balls were
handed out during the night and
the players afield made 10 er
rors seven by Reno.
Pitcher Bill Carr, 21-game
winner last year, led the Pitts
burg Diamonds to a 6 to 2 vic
tory over the first place Klam
ath Falls Gems for his second
win of the season. Catcher Lou
Valletta paced the winners at bat
with three hits in three tries.
In other games, the Willows
Cardinals got two lucky wins on
a stolen base and a wild throw
to down the Eugene Larks 9 to
7, and Medford piled up six runs
in the second inning to coast to
a 7 to 2 victory over Marysville.
LaMorra Warned
By NBA Leader
Faterson, N. J., May 10 U.R)
Commissioner Abe J. Greene of
the National Boxing association
today telegraphed Middleweight
Champion Jake LaMotta to name
the man he intends meeting in
a title fight June 14.
Col. Harvey L. Miller, execu
tive secretary of the N.B.A.
Washington headquarters, began
a mail-poll of the N.B.A.'s execu
tive committee on the Pennsyl
vania proposal to strip LaMotta
of his title forthwith.
If LaMotta does not "cooper
ate" with the N.B.A. by quickly
naming the man he will give a
shot at the title in Yankee sta
dium on June 14, it's a 10-to-l
bet the N.B.A. poll will belt him
off the middleweight throne.
And if the man he names does
not appeal to the dozen or so
members of the executive com
mittee as a "logical contender,"
the committee may vacate his
title anyway.
Takes Honors at Show
David Lawrence Bridges, Med
ford, walked off with top hon
ors in the children's handling
class of the dog show held Sun
day at the fairgrounds at Klam
ath Falls, it was learned today.
His cocker spaniel was termed
best in his class.
