Philippines' Forces
Under One Leader
.. Manila (U.R) The Philip
pines armed forces have been
"unified" under a single com
mand headed by a United States
trained professional soldier.
President Elpidio Quirino ap
pointed Ma. Gen. Mariano Cas
taneda, 57-year-old veteran of
the Battle of Bataan, as com
mander of the five separate
branches of the armed forces.
The appointment was signifi
cant because It came at a time
when Huk outlaws were waging
a vicious campaign against the
government of Luzon, the main
island of the archipelago. There
had been severe criticism of the
Philippine constabulary's 34
year fight against the peasant
dissidents.
Under an executive order re
organizing the nation's armed
forces, President Quirino direct
ed that they remain under the
administrative supervision of
Secretary of National Defense
Ruperto Kangleon, a tough
guerrilla warrior on Leyte dur
ing the war against Japan.
The five commands the con
stabulary, ground forces, naval
patrol, air force and service com
mand were placed under Cas
taneda, who studied at Fort
Benning, Ga., 10 years ago.

notice, drugs or medicines. They
are essential foods or elements
of nutrition required by the
body to maintain functional de

minerals do you no good at any
rate they can do you no harm.
But I beg of you, if you decide
to "try'' my treatment, don't Just
monkey with It for a week or
two. If it takes a year, two years
or ten years for degeneration to
occur in some of the cells of
heart wall or artery wall in con
sequence of nutritional defic

bring about regeneration- of the
dead or dying cells by simply
restoring the vitmins and min
erals to your daily diet for a few
weeks, can you, stupid? It is not
worth while to supplement your
faulty diet with optimal rations
of vitamins and minerals in the
effort to restore a measure of
tone or functional efficiency to
your heart muscle, your gastro
intestinal muscle or your arter
ial walls unless you get the re
quired ration every day for at
least three months.
In dwelling upon the Import

cardio-vascular degeneration I
am not unmindful of the part
played by exercise in keeping
the circulation up to par or im
