    Gold Star Chapter
To Be Instituted
In Camp Ceremony
With department representa
tives presiding, a Medford chap
ter of Gold Star Mothers will be
instituted in ceremonies at Camp
White tonight at 8 o'clock. The
new group will receive its char
ter and officers will be installed.
Representatives from other
chapters in Oregon will be in
attendance and the department
drill team will assist with the
Installation.
Invitations have been sent to
the heads of all patriotic organ
izations and to their auxiliaries,
to attend the ceremonies. Mayor
Diamond Flynn will present the
charter and Miss Frances Thrun
will sing. She will lead group
inging, accompanied by Bruno
Pellegrini.
All Gold Star mothers are In
vited to attend by Mrs. James
Cech, who will be installed presi
dent of the new organization.
Central Point PI A
Announces Meeting;
Reports To Be Heard
Central Point Central Point
Parent-Teacher association will
meet Tuesday, May 9 at 3:30
p.m., with tea to be served at
that time by mothers of children
in the first grade.
Mrs. Arnold Bohnert will re
port on the recent state conven
tion, and the new officers will
be installed at this time. Music
will be in charge of Mrs. Flor
ence Gasper.
This will be the last meeting
of the year, and officers of the
association urge a large attend
ance. Superintendent H. P. Jew
ett will report on the progress
of the new school.

Phoenix Teacher
District Winner;
Club To Be Guest
Miss Abbie Sturtevant, Phoe
nix school teacher and member
of Medford Toastmistress club,
won the district speech contest
of Toastmistress clubs at a meet
ing last Sunday in Klamath
Falls. She will now enter the
regional contest in .Seattle,
Wash., May 20.
Miss Sturtevant gave the same
talk on "Keys'" which won her
the Medford club contest recent
ly, this subject having been cho
sen by her from the general
theme, "Progress Through En
lightenment." She was accompanied to Klam
ath Falls by Mrs. Marjorie Hop
kins, president of the Medford
club, who acted as toastmistress
for the meeting and contest. Also
attending was Mrs. George Mc
Intyre, who presided over a
business meeting of District 7,
and during the session Mrs. Lola
Reed of Medford was elected
president to succeed Mrs. Mcln
tyre. Miss Dana Platz accompanied
the group and acted as one of
the judges.
Members of the newly formed
Grants Pass Toastmistress club
will be guests of the Medford
club at a meeting Monday, May
8, in the Girls' Community club.
Dessert at 7:15 p. m. will be fol
lowed by the regular program
of talks. Mrs. James J. Boyle
will be toastmistress and Mrs.
Bren H. Starcher, topic mistress.
Theme of the meeting will be
"Women Around the World."
Speakers will be Mrs. Wallace
Haskins, Mrs. Robert Claypool,
Mrs. i. J. Kuntz and Mrs. ocott
V. Davis.
Olive Rebekah Lodge
Plans Dinner Saturday
Olive Rebekah lodge made
final plans for a "penny" dinner,
to be served May 6 at the IOOF
hall, 221 West Sixth street, at a
meeting of the lodge held Mon
day night. Mrs. Harry Bryant
noble grand, presided.
The dinner will be served
from 5:30 to 7:30 p. m. Mrs. Carl
Pearson is general chairman and
a program is being arranged by
FL club members for those who
wish to remain for the evening.
Mrs. Merle Ivie, degree staff
captain, has called two prac
tices. The first is set for May 10
at 7:30 p.m. and one for May 31
at 7:30 p.m.
Nomination for officers was
closed, and elections set for
Monday, May 15. The committee
for the May 15 meeting will be
Mrs. Walden, chairman. Mrs.
Minnie Bellinger, co-chairman;
Mr. and Mrs. Charley Clark,
Mrs. Lillie Demmer, Mrs. Dollie
Love. Mrs. Ida Hollars. Mrs.
Richard B. Kaye, Mrs. Marvin
Heidemann and Mrs. Bernice
Wilson.

To See Movies Sunday

pictures at the meeting of St.
Mark's Young People's Fellow
ship in the parish hall of St.
Mark's Episcopal church Sun

The young people will assem
ble at 7 p. m. for a business
meeting, and the pictures will
be shown at 7:45 p. m. The pic
tures will be those of local
scenes, it was stated.

Plan 'Singspiration'
Phoenix Young people of the
high school and college age of
Phoenix Presbyterian church
will hold the monthly "singspira
tion" and social hour at the
church Sunday, May 7, at 7:30
p. m. Plans are being made for
an evening of fellowship and all
young people of these age groups
are invited to attend.
