Mr and Mrs. Paul Graham Antony were married April 22 In
Sacred Heart Catholic church, with about 400 guests present for
the ceremony and 200 attending the reception held at the Rogue
Valley Country club. Mrs. Antony formerly was Melody Christine
Smith, daughter o Mr. and Mrs. Ira Dale Smith oi San Diego, Cat

Antony-Smith Rites Held
At Sacred Heart Church
One of spring's largest weddings was that of Miss Melody
Christine Smith to Paul Graham Antony which took place Sat
urday, April 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic church here. The bride
is a aaugnter oi mr. and Mrs. ira Dale smith of San Diego, Cal.,
and the bridegroom'! parents are Dr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Antony,

The Rev. C. J. Llnehan read
the ceremony at two o'clock in
the afternoon, with Mr. Smith
giving his daughter in marriage.
Pink and yellow blossoms and
white tapers decorated the main
altar, and other floral arrange
ments were of pastel stock with
huckleberry and fern. Twelve
branched candelabra with light
ed tapers and ferns stood at each
aide of the communion rail.
White ribbon bows, strands of
Ivy and daisies decorated the
news.
Bruno Pellegrini was at the
organ for the wedding marches
and also played throughout the
ceremony.
The bride's gown of traditional
white satin was fashioned with
a yoke of illusion framed with
wide Clumtilly lace and the
bouffant skirl, made with pan
niers, ended in a train. Her short
veil of Illusion fell from a seed
pearl headdress, and she wore a
small strand of natural pearls
given to her by her mother on
her sixth birthday.
Her .bouquet was of while
itephanotls and ivy centered
with green orchids. For her
"something borrowed'' she wore
a small gold hair clip belonging
to the bridegroom's grandmoth
er, Mrs. Susan Graham, and for
"something old" carried a lace
handkerchief more than 80 years
old.
Miss Harriet Walker, maid-of-honor,
wore a gown of lavender
nylon marquisette with dropped
shoulder line outlined with lace.
Her hat and gloves matched the
gown and her bouquet was a fan
shaped spray of yellow snap
dragons and pastel daisies.
Bridesmaids were Miss Sherry
Antony, sister of the bride
groom, Miss Audree Andrews,
Sirs. Tom Stanley Jr., and Miss
Phyllis Tcngwald. Miss Antony
and Miss Andrews wore frocks
of daffodil yellow marquisette
with matching lace and curried
fan-shaped bouquets of lavender
colored snapdrapoiis and pastel
daisies. The frorks of Mrs. Still
ley and Miss Tengwald were of
aquamarine marquisette with
matching lace and their fan
shaped bouquets were of deep
rose snapdragons and pastel
daisies. All wore matching lints
and gloves.
The flower girls, Terryl Anne
Antony, sister of the bride
groom, and Marljo Smith, cousin
of the bride, wore long dresses
of nile green marquisette with
matching hats and gloves and
carried straw baskets filled with
pastel colored flowers.
Glenn Tlngley of Ashland was
best man and ushers were Rob

St. Mark's Guild
Announces Date
Of Annual Party
St. Mark's Evening guild has
announced Wednesday, May 17,
as the date of the annual spring
bridge benefit party, and exten
sive preparations are being made
for the evening. The guild has
given the spring party every
year for the past several years,
and it is anticipated as one of
the largest of the spring events.
This year both canasta and
bridge will be played.
Mrs. N. H. Gladfelter is gen
eral chairman, and she is assist
ed by Miss Ann Drysdale. Other
committee chairmen are Mrs.
Robert Dames, publicity; Mrs.
John G. Crawford, tickets; Mrs.
Floyd Baker, flowers; Mrs. Vera
Strader, prizes; Mrs. L. G. Miles,
table decorations; Mrs, Edward
P. Barnett, refreshments; Mrs.

was at the Rogue Vallev Country
club. The bride's table and the
two punch tables were arranged
wilh bowls of pastel blossoms
and crystal candelabra holding
white tapers and large baskets
of blossoms and hueklebcrrv
formed the background decora
tions.
Mrs. Hollls Smith of Dallas,
Ore.i cut the wedding cake using
a knife belonging to the bride
groom's grandmother and adorn
ed with a white orchid and forget-me-nots.
She was assisted by
Miss Delores Steuerson and
pouring were Miss Moreen Field,
Mrs. John Ouslerhoul, Miss Vir
ginia Gibbons and Mrs. Belle
Jones. Miss Vonna Lee Webber
took charge of the guest book.
Mrs. Joe McDufiic and Mrs. Joe
MeDuffie Jr., were in charge of
church decorations, while Mrs.
Myron Andrews and Mrs. Claud
K. Mclntyre supervised the club
decor.
For the event the bride's moth
er wore a pearl gray crepe dress
wilh black straw hat and her cor
sage was of rose and lavender
fuchsias. The bridegroom's moth
er wore a dress of stone blue
with matching jacket and her
black straw hnt was covered
with pink flower petals. Her
corsage was of pink carnations
and baby orchids.
The newlyweds are spending
their honeymoon In California,
the bride wearing for traveling
a toast-brown gabardine suit
with green accessories and cor
sage of green and brown orchids.
They will live temporarily with
the bride's uncle, Ewin Stone of
Central Poinl. The bride attend
ed school in Medford and
Texas before entering the
University of Oregon where
she was a member ofAinphibl
ans. Later she was a student
at Southern Oregon college.
The bridegroom attended
Oregon Slate college after high
school In Medford and was a
pledge of Beta Tlieta l'i frater
nity. He also attended Southern
Oregon college. He is associated
with Robert Mclntyre In the
firm of Antony-Mclntyrc Homes,
Inc.

show given at the Grants Pass
Country club.
The unusual show was of wed
ding dresses, yesterday and to
day, with the oldest dating back
to 1850 and the newest worn by
a February bride'. Mrs. Leo
Sauers was chairman of the show
and Don Safford, formerly of
Medfordt was master of cere
monies, Mrs. Mel Starnes, also
formerly of this city, is president
of the club.

Carriers was honored at a ban
(uet given at the Hotel Medford
Wednesday by the Medford
branch of the association. At
tending were 42 carriers and
their wives from Eugene, Grants
Pass. Klamath Falls, Ashland
and Medford.
Moore Hamilton, acting post
master for Medford. was master
of ceremonies for the dinner and

I nett, superintendent of mail,

ent and Budd Gail, president of
the Medford Postoffice clerks.
Ronald Brown, state secretary
of the carriers' association, was
present from Eugene. He
brought news of other branches
in the slate and information con
cerning the state convention to
be held in Medford June 24-25.
The state auxiliary was repre
sented by Mrs. Robert Caldwell,
state treasurer from Klamath
Falls. She was accompanied by
a number of auxiliary members
from that city.

ert M. Henderson of The Dalles,
Ore. The couple exchanged mar
riage vows before Dr. G. W. Eb
rlght at Zion Lutheran church,
with the 8 o'clock service fol
lowed by a reception in the Med
ford hotel.
Given in marriage by her fath
er, the bride wore a gown of
white faille taffeta designed with
train and her fingertip length
veil, cut from the imported illu
sion veil which Mrs. Cole Holmes
tiad worn at her wedding, was
held by a headdress of seed pearls
and pink and white bouvardia.
Her bouquet was a white or
chid with pink watsonia and ba
by breath.
Mrs. Wayne L. Dickenson, the
honor attendant, wore a frock
of pastel yellow and her bouquet
was of daisies and ivy. Mrs.
James Grigsby Jr. and Mrs. Wil
liam Sheirbon, bridesmaids, wore
oastel blue gowns and carried
bouquets of daisies and ivy.
Their headdresses were of blue
net and daisies.
William Sheirbon served as
best man for the bridegroom and
ushers were Gilbert Hill, The
Dalles; Chester Clark, Grants
Pass, and Wayne Dickenson of
Medford.
Organ music for the ceremo
ny was by Miss Lorraine Veidt.
Baskets of white and purple
stock and white lilacs made up
the floral setting for the wed
ding and the pew ends were
adorned with nosegays of purple
stock and white daisies.
For the reception the serving
tables were centered with ar
rangements of white tulips, white
narcissi and white spirea with
white tapers.

About 150 guests were present.
Mr. Henderson and his bride
are traveling in California and
Nevada for their honeymoon and
will live In The Dalles. Mr. Hen
derson was graduated from The
Dalles high school and later
served with the army in the Eu
ropean theater. The bride at
tended the University of Oregon
after completing high school
here and is a registered nurse.

PI Beta Phi Alumnae club
held the annual Founders' day
dinner Friday night at the home
of Mrs. George Jennings, Sagi
naw drive. The president, Mrs.
James Busch, Ashland, presided
at the meeting and led the
Founders' day program. This was
the 87th anniversary of founding-Mrs.
Robert Hart and Mrs. I.
E. Staples were in charge of
arrangements.

Pi Beta Phi, founded April
28, 1867, was the first national
women's fraternity in this na
tion, In those first days after
the Civil War, higher education
among women was still a rarity
and it is remembered that wo
men students at Monmouth
college, Monmouth, 111., where
the group was founded, were
required to enter through
special door marked "Door for
Women."
The group persisted, however,
and a second chapter was foun
ded within a year. Pi Beta Phi T
now has over 50,000 members
and 97 chapters throughout this
country and Canada, and 236
alumnae clubs. The sorority is
dedicated to service, a purpose
exemplified in the Settlement
school at Gatlinburg, Tcnn., and
many scholarships for women
both within and without the
sorority.
