ness trip April 19. Mr. and Mrs.
Holcomb are building a new
home on their ranch which will
be most attractive when finished
as hand-hewn log from the old
Buckmaster place are being
used.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Stafford
of Trail entertained at their
home on April 8 with a pre-Eas-ter
dinner and canasta party.
Present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Kindschi, Mr. and Mrs. A. B.
Clark, Mr. and Mrs. U. R. Wag
ler all of Trail, and the host and
hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
Stafford. '
Joseph Foote, son of Mrs.
Ruby Hess of Shady Cove, has
just received his discharge from
the marine corps and is visiting
his mother and family in Shady
Cove.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Chiesman
of Grand Junction, Colo., arrived
April 19 to visit with Mrs. Alice
Chiesman, mother of Wayne
Chiesman, and Mr. and Mrs.
Johnny Walker of Shady Cove.
Mrs. Walker and Mr. Chiesman
are brother and sister.
Mrs. W. O. Shuhmann of On
tario. Cal., spent the Easter va
cation visiting her sister and
brother-in-lew, Mr. and Mrs. U,
R. Wader of Big Butte, Trail.
Mrs. E. W. Churchill, mother of
Mrs. Wagler and Mrs. Shuhmann
who had been spending the win
ter with Mrs. Wagler returned
to California with Mrs. Shuh
mann,
Mrs. Frances Masscy of Trail
is confined at home with a knee
injury. After seeing the doctor
she spent a few days In Medfora
with Mrs. Lula Crumrin before
returning home.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Lombard
newcomers to the Trail commu
nity from Los Angeles, who re
cently purchased the old Mann
place entertained at their home
April 12 with a canasta party.
Present were Mr. and Mrs. O. L.
Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Nick
Hohn, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith
and the host and hostess.
Newcomers to Shady Cove
from Dallas, Tex., are Mr. and
Mrs. Houston Potter and daugh
ter, Barbara who are now living
in part of the Adair duplex.
Mis. Houston is a sister of Mrs.
Oglcsby of Shady Cove and cou
sin of Mrs. Mattie Oglesby, also
of Shady Cove.

drove to Yreka on Easter Sun
day to see Mrs. Otto's brother.
Charles Evans of Dorris, who is
a patient in the Yreka hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Athel Dudley
drove over on Sunday from Co-
quille to visit their daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Quail of Shady Cove.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cowdrey
daughter Shirley and son Carl
who were living In Mrs. Flor
ence Mason's house in Shady
Cove have moved back to their
home in Talent, as Mrs. Mason
has returned from Oakland, Cal.
to reoccupy her home.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Morris
of Shady Cove opened their new
restaurant next to the bhady
Cove Locker plant on April 10
and employ Mr. and Mrs. Homer
Chamberlain and Mrs. Alberta
Chamberlain in the restaurant.
Ths tavern opened on April 18.
A very up-to-date neon sign
flashes on and off over the res
taurant, the first sign of its type
in shady Cove.
A children's night for instruc
tion in square dancing will be
held Friday, April 29, from 8 to
10 p.m. at Upper Rogue Grange
hall. This activity is sponsored
by mothers of the Elk Creek and
Upper Rogue area and is under
direction of Mrs. Arlce Ragsdale
and Mrs. Leona Hughes.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Hilde
brand of Elk creek, Trail, have
as a guest, Jimmy Dorr of Sun
Valley, Ida.
Mr. and Mrs. Barney Lewin
and Mr. Lewin's mother, Mrs.
Ida Otto of Shady Cove made a
trip to Brookings April 12,
spending the day there.

Cora Lane. Their visit is a stop-
off on their way to Wrangell,
Alaska, where they plan to make
their home.
Week-end guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Jerry Hicks of Shady Cove
were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nelson of
Eureka, Cal.
Elberta Hubbell, son of Mr,
and Mrs. Grant Hubbell of Sun
set on the Rogue, Trail, is home
from Guam where he is em
ployed in navy construction, for
a visit with his parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bosworth
entertained with a birthday din
ner and canasta party at their
home in honor of Mr. Bosworth's
birthday April 19. Guests were
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bosworth, Mr.
and Mrs. Dick Bartuss, Mrs. Flor
ence Mason and their daughter,
Mrs. William Tunberg and
grandsons, Bill and Jack Tun
berg. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Pickens and
son. Heath, and Mrs. Picken's
mother, Mrs. Foster of Ashland,
spent Sunday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Barney Lewin of
Shady Cove.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Hilde
brand and son Eddie, of Elk
creek, Trail, made a trip to Rose
burg over last week-end where
they were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Walden.
Nineteen members and guests
were present at the monthly
meeting of Upper Rogue Exten
sion unit April 18 at the home
of Mrs. Dick Schauble of Shady
Cove. Broiled Dinners was the
project taken up with Mrs. O. C.
Krotz and Mrs. Kaipn Lane as
leaders and a very excellent dem
onstration of the broiling of dif
ferent kinds of food was given.
Announcement was made of the
annual Homemaker's Festival to
be held at the Grange hall in
Central Point on May 3. Tickets
for the luncheon will be on sale
until the deadline of April 29.
Child care will be provided for
at a small fee with the mothers
providing a sack lunch for their
children. Plans were also made
for a picnic on June 20 at Casey
state park for members of the
unit and their children. Mrs. Ag
nes Hubbell donated use of the
hall at Sunset-on-the-Rogue for
instruction in square dancing
for members of the unit and
their husbands which will be
given under the direction of
Mrs. Lcona Hughes. There will
be four lessons in May starting
on Monday night May 8, the last
class to be on May 29. Instruc
tion will start at 7:30. Members
interested In glove making will
meet at the home of Mrs. Lola
Bartuss on April 25 and those
interested in the making of
lamp shades at the home of Mrs.
Leona Hughes on April 27.
A party and dinner was held
May 15 at Shady Cove school
house for the Shady Cove grade
school basketball team and their
dads with 21 in attendance. The
team won two trophies for the
school this year. Sponsoring the
dinner were Mrs. Allen Eastgate,
Mrs. Helen Johnson, Mrs. Wil
liam Shepherd and Mrs. Ralph
Lane.
Upper Rogue Extension unit
members were guests of the
Reese Creek Extension unit
Thursday at the home of Mrs.
Dick Johnson of Shady Cove. A
meeting was held on the sub
ject of "Cancer Control." Re
freshments were served by the
Reese Creek unit.
A third meeting for the pur
pose of organizing a Grange for
Shady Cove and vicinity will be
held starting at 8 p.m. April 26.
at the Shady Cove choolhousc.
William Howes. State Grange
deputy - and Roscoe Roberts,
State Grange steward will again
be present to assist in the or
ganizing. Questions will be an
swered by the State Grangers
and an effort made to enroll the
charter members. A meeting
place for the Grange, if organ
ized, has been arranged for the
balance of the year 1950. Every
one interested is cordially invit
ed to attend. There is no obliga-1
tion attached to attending to find j
out about the workings of the j

are urged to attend.

Shady Cove schoolhouse. There
will be a speaker from Southern
Oregon College of Education
