Portland, Ore., Apr. 8 (U.R)
A brown-eyed, 10-months-old
baby girl was being cared for
at the Albertina Kerr nursery
while police sought her mother,
who apparently abandoned her
five days ago.
Miss Elizabeth Herse, a pro
fessional baby sitter, told po
lice a grpy-halred, well-dressed
woman about 35 or 40 years old
left the child at her apartment
last Tuesday. The woman, who
arrived and departed by taxi
cab, told Miss Herse that she had
been quarreling with her hus
band and wanted to leave the
infant with the baby sitter for
several hours.
The woman Rave Miss Herse
two dollars but failed to leave
any feeding instructions.
When the woman failed to re
turn for the child by Wednesday,
Miss Herse called police. Police
matrons took the child to the
