Not long ago a poll sponsored
by the City School Superinten
dent's association, High School
Principals' association and the
Oregon State Activities' asso
ciation was taken relative to
opinions on many subjects but
particularly in regard to school
athletics.
Answering the questionnaire
sent out were principals and
superintendents of A and B high
schools in the state.
While the poll was no more
than a meant of finding out
what officials thought along
certain lines and may have
no effect on policies of either
association, some answers to
questions and the percentage
of "yes" and "no" to them are
of interest to sports fans.
One question in particular is
of interest because of current
moves to change classification
of schools into A, B and C so as
to make athletic competition
closer than it is now.
According to the OSAA report
on the poll. 355 voted in favor
of dividing the schools into
three classes, 31 wanted the pres
ent A and B set-up and 12 sug
gested raising the B classifica
tion. The three divisions under the
proposed change would make A
schools those having 600 to 1.000
pupil.". B schools those with 150
to 600 and C schools would have
0 to 150.
Those suggesting raising the
B school classification varied
between six wanting 200 as the
maximum, four wishing 225 and
four asking for 250.
If this is any kind of indi
cation, most school superinten
dents and principals in Ore
gon want an A, B and C classi
fication and maybe this will .
bring the OSAA board of con
trol to change its mind and
authorize the revision at has
been asked by many fans and
tchools.
Here is another in a series of
explanations on changes and
new interpretations in baseball
rules made by Umpire Bill Sum
mers: "When a batted ball rolls foul
along either base line the batter
and coaches must not touch the
ball nor may anyone guff or
fluff on it. The ball must be al
owed to come to rest insofar
as these men are concerned.
"Otherwise it is interference
and the batter it out."
Medford high sports picture
insofar as winning games and
meets are concerned looks better
and better.
Last Saturday Don Vincent
certainly provided one of the
most thrilling climaxes to a
track meet that has been seen
here in some time with his long
heave of the javelin which to
gether with D. C. Mills' throw
gave Medford that event and a
win over Klamath Falls,
The Tornado showed more
poite which perhapt it at leatt '
partly because of the relative
ly large number of boyt out
for each event. Medford hat
another tough tett thit week
Saturday when It taket on
Crantt Put at Grantt Pati.
Coach Alex McDonald is pleas
ed with the pitching and prob
ably his fielding possibilities on
the Tornado baseball team but
he certainly must be wondering
how lone the team's winning
luck will hold out when the boys
can garner but two to five hits
per game.
Derald Wooten kept Eagle
Point in hand last Friday with
a no-hitter but his playmates
made only two hits.

Toronto and
Wings Losers
. By United Prett
The Montreal Canadiens still
were alive in the Stanley cup
playoffs today, and the Detroit
Red Wings were back on even
terms with the defending cham
pion Toronto Maple Leafs.
That was the net result of two
overtime games last night in
which Montreal downed the New
York Rangers, 3 to 2, and De
troit edged Toronto, 2 to 1. Both
series will be resumed tomor
row at Montreal and Detroit.
The Canadiens' victory was
their first after the Rangers won
the first three games.
