    EIGHT MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE
rrlday. March 24. 1950
To Compete Satfwday
Medford high'i first track meet
of the 1950 season will be held
Saturday starting at 2 p. m. on
the local football turf when the
Black Tornado meets the Grants
Puss Cavemen in a "short dis
tance" meet. Medford is defend
ing state champion among class
A Inch schools.
What "short distance" means
is that such events as the 100 and
other running competition will
be shortened. The 100 will be
come a 75-yard race, the 220 will
be 150 yards and so on. Only
the field events will be the same
is usual.
Coaches Bob Newland, Lee
Ragsdale and Fred Spiegelberg
are not saying too much as yet
about the Tornado' 1950 pros
pects to repeat as a state cham
pion. Medford lost three out
standing athletes in Loren Car
ter, Rich Riggs and Jerry Mc
Grew through 1949 graduation.
Newland once said that this
trio among them was good for
20 points with individual and
relav competition.
The Tornado has a large num
u.. i hnv. nut for some events.
In fact many more than has been
the case in recent years. Just
who will be the best still is a
matter of time as the cool weath
er and rain of the last few weeks
has not allowed the boys to open
UPit is unlikely.'for instance, that
Jack Morris will be at h i best
Saturday aRainst the Grant Pass
in this meet that will count noth
ing toward a championship but
will give the coaches an opportu
nity to valuate the youths as to
their respective ability.
The older Morns boy being
ilv muscled than some
of the other youths takes a bit
longer to "loosen up. His
brother Frank probably will be
in trim more tnan jacn.
v on much is known nere
about the Caveman's track pros-
iitti nas Deen uunc
thori. in that athletic en
deavor due to the Grants Pass
basketball team taking up most
of their time. The fact G. P. was

wrestling followers last night
when he said he planned to have
Leo Wallick on the armory card
next Thursday evening.
The grappler has been a sen
sation all over the country and
currently the biggest draw
ing card in the northwest, Lit-
lard reported. An opponent was
unnamed but it was indicated
that Frank Stojack would get
the bid as result of the finale of
last night's triple main event.
Stojack took the match when
his adversary, Georges Dusette,
was disabled by a painful back
injury. The two opened their en
gagement in rough and tumble
style.
Hoists Duietle Up
Stojack hoisted the French
man to his shoulders and Dusette
probably would have been much
better off had he submitted to
the intended airplane whirl.
However, Dusette grabbed the
ropes, somehow wriggled free
and clamped his favorite full
nelson on the Tacoman. The t
thus locked, tumbled over the
hopes, Stojack landing on top of
Dusette whose back whacked the
edge of the apron.
The airplane spin artist climb
ed groggily into the ring to claim
the one and only fall. Dusette
was toted to the dressing room.
In the middle event Tough
Tony Ross, Salem meanie, gain
ed two out of three spills from
Charlie Carr. Ross nabbed the
first fall with a toe hold and leg
stomp and Carr the second with
a Boston crab. A body press, aft
er butts by Carr backfired, earn
ed Ross the final tumble.
Starter a Draw
In the starter Danno McDonald.
Canadian scrapper, and Lee
Grable, Los Angeles, went the
full 45-minute route to a draw.
McDonald got one fall with a
dropklck and body press and
Grable grabbed the evener with
an abdominal stretch afler Mc
Donald missed a dropkick

ness Manager Mel Carpenter of
the Medford Rogues (Nuggets) of
