Delake 'Monster'
To Be Destroyed
By Gasoline Fire
DeLake.-Ore., Mar. 16 tU.R)
DeLake's unclassified sea mon
ster" will be disposed of later
this week if a combination of
oil, gasoline, and old tires can
feed a fire hot enough to boil
down the remains, Randolph Al-
linu, operator of the lourist
cafe" here, said today.
"We tried to burn up a chunk
of 'Jughead' the other day with
a gallon of gasoline and five or
six gallons of oil," Allum said,
"but the flesh just curled up."
County Commissioner Jack
Patterson said he had seen all
kinds of sea life, including rem
nants of whales, but the DeLake
"monster" was something new to
him. "I'd say it was a member
of the jellyfish or squid group,"
he guessed.
Incomplete Test
DcLakers debunked the re
sults of a chemical analysis on
"Jughead" made shortly after it
was washed ashore. They said an
incomplete test was performed
by an Oregon slate game com
missioner when he said the
"monster" was whale blubber.
Residents said seagulls re
fused to touch "Jughead" even
when pieces were cut off and
spread out on the sand. DcLakers
said the aroma 01 tne:r cast
away is not too strong yet, but
they want to dispose ot me prize
before warm spring weatner ar
rives. "This Is no ordinary animal,"
Allum stated. "It's flesh is too
tough for the average hunting
knife, and it takes an axe to cut
out any of the main body."

Leon Errol. Extremely bril
liant comedian of stage and
screen. Originally from Austral
ia, Leon made his New York bow
in the Ziegfcld Follies of 1910,
and appeared in many subse
quent editions of this classic
series. Also made a terrific hit in
"Sally." Remember his "rubber

resign from the Young Old Tim
ers. I believe Errol would go over
oig on television with a show of
his own. He's an entertainment
genius.
Says He.
Ramon Novarro, one of the
leading heart-throbs of the silent
film era. does not think much ot
the technique of the "great
lovers" of the screen of today.
Says Ramon: "We used to put a
woman on a pedestal and when
we did get passionate we did it
with reverence. Nowadays they
grab the leading lady, slap her.
kick her, pull her hair and
growl: "How about it, Kid?" con
tinues Mr. Novarro: "You gel
much better results with the
feminine audience if you kiss
the neck of the leading lady, her
hands and her ears. And when
you work up to a certain pitch
leave the rest to the imagination
of the audience."

China Fireworks
Canby, Ore., Mar. 16 (U.R!
The shooting war in China ap
parently won't slow down this
country's loud celebration of In
dependence day next July.
Twenty tons of Chinese fire
works were in storage today on
the R. M. Weygandt farm near
here. They arrived in Portland
last week by freighter from Hong
Kong.
Weygandt traded his ginseng
root crop for the 'crackers, which
will be distributed to dealers
throughout the west by the
farmer's own Western Fireworks
company.
Tariffs Paid
Tariffs ranging from four to
12$ cents were paid to the
United Stales government by
Weygandt for the fireworks
The highest tariff was on the
two-inch salute 'crackers.
The fireworks wore packed in
paper-covered, wooden cases
wrapped in straw matting. This
is the third consecutive year Far
mer Weygandt has traded his
ginseng crop for Chinese fire
crackers.
The aromatic root of the gin
seng herb is highly valued as a
medicine in China. It has a
sweetish taste, like that of
licorice.
