Square Dance Jamboree
To Be Held In Medford
For months the square dance fever has been mounting higher
and higher in the valley, with everybody from six-yenr-old-Susic
to Uncle Bill and grandma joining In the fun. Now adding to the
excitement is the announcement that Jack Hoheisal, well known
southern Califoria souare dance caller, will be here for a dance
Jamboree sponsored by the YMCA square dance group.
wnne tne eveni won i De unui
March 25, those who will parti
cipate are already making their
plans. The feminine dancers are
searching the shops for some
thing new and colorful in the
way of square dance garb, and
both the men and the women are
"brushing up on their dance
routines.
As an aid in this "brushing
up business, the tentative list
of dances is announced by the
Y group. Listed under the
squares to be danced are such
intriguing titles as "Inside Arch.
Outside Under." "Lady Around
the Lady ' and San Antonio
Rose," to say nothing of "Parle
Vous" and "Missouri Hoe Down.
Others programmed are
Around Just One," "Forward
Eight and Chain Around," "My
Pretty Girl," 'Two Little Sis
ters." "Sally Gooden." The
squares will also Include "Hash,"
described as a medley of calls,
and two squares to be taught by
Mr. Hoheisal.
Couples' dances on the pro
gram will be "Black nawK
Waltz," a schottische, "Cotton
Eye Joe" and two to be taught
bv the visiting caller. Listed
under mixers is "Oh, Johnny."
Dancer's tickets are said to be
selling like the proverbial hot-
cakes, ana several nunarea spec
tator's tickets will also be on
sale. The jamboree will be at the
hieh school gymnasium, and
Kenneth Denman is chairman
The "Y" committee calls atten
tion to the fact that it is not
necessary for couples attending
the dance to attend with a com
Dlete "souare" und added that
this is completely optional. Some
dancers it is thought will enjoy
dancing with squares with whom
thev are accustomed to dance,
while others will be formed of
those who prefer to dance with
a different group each time.
of
This story was told at a Red
Cross meeting the other day, but
it doesn't have a thing to do
with the Red Cross.
The ctnrv hneins with Mrs. S
M. Tuttle, who about two weeks
ago saw a truck stop suddenly
in front of her home on vaney
View drive. The driver got out
and made clutching motions at
smnethine n the road, intrigued,
Mrs. Tuttle went out and discov
roH n hrioht.colored little para
keet which evaded the truck
driver and finally flew up into
a tree.
Returning to the house Mrs.
Tuttle brought back a handful
of the feed which she scatters
for quail and pheasant and ap
proaching the tree, made sooth
ing noises which she hoped
would interest a parakeet. The
noises, or the scattered feed, did
the Irick, the bird flew down
and it wasn't long before Mrs.
Tuttle gathered him up in her
apron.
Then the good Samaritan De-
nan In wonder what she was
rin with a parakeet, any
how. She ran over the list of her
friends who might be interested
in such a creature, nnd finally
called Mrs. Guy W. Phetteplace.
Her choice was a nappy one.
Mrs. Phetteplace not only took
the bird but after watching the
ads for a few days and deciding
that no one was seeking a lost
bird, she bought him a cage and
prepared to enjoy a new pet. To
give this story a happy ending,
we can report that Mrs. Phette
place began to be sorry for the
one little parakeet and went
down town and bought him a
mate.
