Seven Lettermen Out
Central Point, Mar. 11 Seven
lettermen are competing for
places on the Central Point high
baseball team this season but
still the squad lacks depth as far
as experience is concerned,
Coach Clarence Mellbye said
Saturday.
The lettermen back from last
season are Herb Colley, Merle
Anhorn, Herb Trautman, Marlin
Sandvig, Tom Rupp, John Big
ham and Don Johnson. Bigham
and Johnson are pitchers.
Many Frosh Out
Mellbye said the rest of his
squad except for perhaps four or
five sophomores and juniors,
will be made up of freshman.
Last year fans will remember
Bigham in particular as show
ing fairly good form as a pitcher.
The Pointers will open their
1950 season against Eagle Point
at the Camp White Veterans cen
ter field March 24 in a practice
game for both. This will be a
non-conference tilt.
Once again the Pointers will
play in both the Southern Ore
gon and the J-D-J conferences.
The combined schedule for the
two leagues follows:
Battle Royal
Slated Here
Mack Lillard was having a
tough time yesterday to line up
enough wrestlers to make a bat
tle royal as the feature match on
Thursday's card.
Lillard will have Gorgeous
Gus. Billy Fox's wrestling bear,
for the free-for-all and hopes to
line up four grapplers to go in
to the ring with the bruin.
The Great Atlas, unbeaten
here, said it is beneath his dig
nity to grapple a bear but Lil
lard believed yesterday that the
"superman" could be convinced.
Georges Dusette was uncertain
yesterday if his foot, injured last
Thursday here, would be suf
ficiently healed to permit him
to wrestle. -
The promoter said he was try
ing to sign an opening bout, in
addition to the battle royal, add
ing that the two regular
matches between survivors
would follow the melee.
Tickets for the program are
on sale at Brown's, 101 East Main
street.
Point second team by winning
Friday gained the class B cham
pionship finals.
Other teams in B bracket ti
the finals were decided Thursday
night while one of the others in
the consolation B title game was
decided Thursday (Howard) and
the other was decided Friday
(Rogue River second team).
Trophies were to be given Sat
urday night after the final game
to each class champion, each
second place team and each con
solation bracket winner.

Nevada Protests
Banning Of Team
Reno, Nev., Mar. 11 (U.R)
Angry University of Nevada
authorities today dispatched a
sizzling protest to .the NAIB de
manding an immediate "ex
planation" of why the Wolfpack
team was banned from the Na
tional Basketball tourney at Kan
sss Citv.
The NAIB Friday night with
drew its bid to Nevada appar
ently on the basis of stories that
a Las Vegas gambler had offered
the Reno team $1000 to finance
its trip. The gambler's offer was
refused by the university.
Today's angry message to the
president of the NAIB said the
Nevada student body, basketball
team, coaching staff and athletic
board considered the NAIB's
action "a personal insult."
