Jacksonville Chapter
Takes New Members;
Pictures Are Shown
Jacksonville Adarel chapter,
Order of the Eastern Star, met
Thursday evening in the Jack
sonville Masonic hall. Several
members were added to the
chapter by affiliation.
Honored guests were Mrs.
Everett Faber, of the traveling
flag committee and Grant Todd,
budget committee, both of the
grand chapter of Oregon: and
Mrs. Wallace Freeland, worthy
matron of Nevita chapter, Cen
tral Point.
Mrs. Ralph Cook gave a trav
elogue of colored slides, with
Mrs. Merrill Harsh as soloist
and Miss Mabel Sims, accompan
ist. Refreshments were served by
the committee from tables deco
rated with green streamers and
a large shamrock in the St. Pat
rick's day theme.
Initiation will be held at the
meeting of Reames chapter, Or
der of Eastern Star, set for
Thursday, March 9 at 8 p.m. in
the Medford Masonic temple.

Formal Initiation Held
For Tri-Hi-Y Tuesday
Formal initiation was held by
El Toro Tri-Hi-Y Tuesday in
room A of the YMCA. During a
candlelight ceremony Dolores
Bearden, Marianne Braun, Nola
Cannon. Roila Jones, Pat Lawson
and Marlene Moulton were
initialed.
Refreshments were served aft
erwards, with the girls' mothers
as guests.
Colleen Atterbury presided
over the meeting, Astrid Adams
was initiating chairman and
Norma Newman was refresh
ment chairman.

Committee chairmen for this
year's Easter seal sale met March
3 at the home of Mrs. C. B.
Partch, Jackson county chair
man, to complete organization
plans.
The sale will be held March
9 through April 9 and is being
sponsored by Rotana club of
Medford. In explaining the vital
necessity for the sale of Easter
Seals. Mrs. Partch stated. "More
than 335.000 children In the
United States are crippled
throueh accident, disease and
birth. The total number of han
dicapped people Is estimated at
23,000,000. These figures reveal
the scope of the health problem
which is being met through the
services of, public and private
agencies.
"One state after another", she
continued, "has adopted the sale
of Easter Seals as a way to give
every person a chance to help
crippled children and adults. The
public has demonstrated its con
fidence in the Easter Seal drive
nnri the national society by pur-
chasiim more than two billion
seals annually. The more funds
made available through tne pur-
chase of Easter sales, the more
services will be offered 10 me
criuulcd children and adults in
our community.

Gold Hill A Sunday gusst at
Fritz Wertz's art studio in Gold
Hill was Ed B. Quigley, noted
western artist of Portland.
Mr. Quigley was on his way
to Join some California artists,
.who are making a painting trip
to Arizona, but hopes to return
to the Rogue valley at some
future datei to sketch Jackson
ville and ranch scenes with Mr.
Wertz. The Portland artist has
been here before, and made pic-
tures in the Selma and Kerby
district.
The Portlander Invited Mr.
Wertz to visit him in Portland
in April. 1
