been lined up for Mack Lillard's
program at the armory Thurs
day night.
Several of the outstanding
grapplers are former champions
and each is rated as main event
material in Hollywood, Portland
and Seattle, three of the coast's
top wrestling centers.

and now a member of the Grants
Pass high cage squad, will be
one of 10 Cavemen who will take
part in the state class A high
school tourney in Eugene.
The standout for the Pointers
before he transferred to Grants
Pass in the middle of the current
basketball season is rated by
Coach Hank Anderson of the
Cavemen as a "speedy ball-handler
and an in-focus shooter."

To Be Honored Dinner
St. Mary's grade and high
school athletes will be honored
at a banquet Sunday, March 12,
in the Sacred Heart parish hall
by parents and friends, it was
announced Saturday. Dinner
will be served at 5:30 p.m. and
a program will follow.
Toastmaster will be Jimmy
Dunlevy, manager of radio sta
tion KMED, and among guests
will be the parochial school's
coaching staff and Sports Editor

Rogue Snowmen to Ski
Today at Crater Lake;
Two Tows in Operation
Two tows will be in operation
at Crater Lake park today from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the benefit
of Rogue Snowmen Ski club
members, officers said Satur
day. .
The ski area is located at
Government camp about 200
yards east of the administration
building. Park service regula
tions require that no member
ships be sold in the park but
must be purchased in advance,
members said.
Free ski instruction will be
gin at 10 a. m. today for all
classes of skiers.

Cage Squads
Have Dinner
About 100 persons, including
members of the junior high
school seventh, eighth and ninth
grade basketball squads and
their dads attended the dinner,
movies and heard tnjks by
coaches Saturday night at the
school cafeteria as guests of the
fathers and mothers.
The dinner was prepared and
served by several mothers of the
boys.
After the dinner the " boys
went to the girls' gym to see
movies of an Oregon State bas
ketball game.

of the junior high staff, Coaches

Mrs. Robinson was presented
with a gift by Bon Cordier on
behalf of the players and also
received her "M" in apprecia
tion for her work as scorer for
the season.

Noor Again Downs
Citation In Race

In one of the most thrilling fin
ishes e,ver witnessed at Santa
Anita racetrack, Charles S. How
ard's Noor repealed his victory
over Citation again today in the
$50,000 San Juan Capistrano
handicap with a nose victory.
The Santa Anita handicap win
ner of last Saturday. Noor. and
the great Citation ran head and
head down the stretch and at the
finish the result was so close
that the stewards had to wait
for a photo before they could
separate them.
But Noor's nose was out in
front at the wire ending the mile
and three-quarters racing to give
Citation the fourth defeat of the
meeting, but the great horse lost
nothing in esteem by his race.
SFU, Kentucky Named
In Hoop Tournament
New York. March 4 (U.R)
San Francisco university's de
lending champions and Western
Kentucky's perennial power
house were selected today to play
in the national invitation bas
ketball tournament here begin
ning March 11.
Their addition brought to eight
the number of teams which have
accepted bids. Previously chosen
were Bradley, Duquesne, St.
John's, Lasalle, Syracuse and
Long Island university.
That leaveji four spots still to
be filled, and they will be
awarded within the next few
days, probably Monday.
School Boxers' Show

boxing exhibition by local high

The camp show was called off
by people at the center,, Coach

County Grade School
Cage Tourney Slated

nesday in the Central Point high
gym with Jacksonville meeting
Central Point at 2 p.m. and Eagle
Point taking on St. Mary's (Med
ford) at 3 p.m.

ford high school 1950 squad will
open Monday afternoon at the
close of school. Coach Alex Mc
Donald said Saturday.
Twelve or thirteen lettermen
are back from last year's team
that was rated about the best in
southwestern Oregon if not in
the state among A schools. The
Black Tornado has dominated
the Southern Oregon conference
for some years.
Few Had Graduated
Last year the local diamond
players lost but a few boys
through graduation and several
who showed good promise in
1950 as jayvees or junior high
candidates are expected to add
strength to the 1950 team, espe
cially in pitching.
Medford opens its conference
baseball season Friday after
noon, March 31, against Eagle
Point at Medford.
About 40 boys interested In
playing attended a meeting
open to prospects held indoors
some time ago.

nailed down one place on the
first string.
In a year made notable for
lack of individual brilliance on
most teams, these five men were
standouts on successful cage
squads:

wards Bill Sharman, USC, and
Ed Gayda, Washington State,
and Guards George Stanich,
UCLA, and Louie Soriano, Uni
versity of Washington.

The countv tournev has been
divided into classes A and B with
the high school district grade
schools in class A and non-high
school quintets plus second teams
from Central Point and Rogue
River schools playing in class B.
Thursday will sec the winner
in the Eagle Point vs. St. Mary's
game play the victor in the Gold
Hill vs. Rogue River contest al
7 p.m. and an hour Inter Phoenix
will take on the winner of the
Jacksonville - Central Point con
test. Friday's Schedule
At least five games will be
played starting at 5 p.m. Friday
and concluding with 8 p.m. A
sixth may be necessary but that
will depend on whether Phoenix
wins or loses over the J'ville
Central Point winner.
Should Phoenix lose then it
will play the losing team of the
Central Point-J'ville game at 4
p.m. Friday. If the Phoenix quin
tet wins then it will play at 8
p.m. Thursday.
A consolation champ in A divi
sion will be decided starting at 5
p.m. Saturday and the B division
titleholder game will begin at 6
p.m. that day .
