Held Monday Night
About 80 young people attend
ed a banquet and installation of
officers held by Crater Lake
Christian Endeavor union at the
Medford First Presbyterian
church Monday evening. Miss
Dea Cox of Talent Friends
church, union president, presid
ed over the evening's activities.
Following the banquet Arden
Hall of Ashland Church of Christ
presented a program, theme of
which was "God Designs Youth
Builds." A dramatic skit, "Chris
tian Endeavor in the Beginning"
was presented by young people
from the Ashland Church . of
Christ.
Miss Molly Gresham spoke on
"God and the Universe"; Miss
Joanne Downing spoke on "The
Home" and Gene Daily talked
on "The Church."
The Rev. Erwin Algers of
Talent Friends' church installed
the newly elected officers. They
are Miss Joanne Downing, presi
dent; Miss Earline Rogers, asso
ciate president; Bill Pruitt, vice
president: Miss Carol Sams, sec

For Weekly Session
Of Duplicate Club
Nine tables of players were on
hand for the weekly meeting of
the Medford Duplicate Bridge
club Tuesday night at the Med
ford hotel.
Ending with top score for the
north and south positions were
Mrs. G. R. Owens and Mrs.
Frank R. Baker with 144 points.
Second spot went to Roy Pruitt
and William Isaacs, with 123
points, while Elliott Trees and
Robert Templeton, a new mem
ber, were in third position with
122V4 points.
Mrs. B. L. Sanderson and Mrs.
T. J. Fuson held firsi place for
east and west positions, with
142,4 points and coming in sec
ond were Mrs. Van Gilbert and
Mrs. W. W. Stevenson with 118
points. Mrs. Roval Lee and Jack
Barr took third with 11314
points.
The club now has 50 members.
Rebekahs Initiate
At Meeting Monday
Initiation was held at the
meeting of Olive Rebekah lodge
Monday night, with Mrs. Helen
Stevens, Mrs. Beverley Hug
dahl, Mrs. Mary Wilson and Mrs.
Helen Strang taken into the
order.
Mrs. H. D. Turner was recom
mended for the degree of chivalry-Following
the initiation cere
mony Mrs. Merle Ivie and her
degree staff were given much
praise for the manner in which
they conducted the ceremonv.
Mrs. W. A. Taylor, a Rebekah
from Waterville, Wash., was
taken into the group by transfer,
and Mrs. Elsie Casebeer, a Re
bekah from Springfield, Ore
was a visitor. She is a house
guest of Mrs. Minnie Bellinger.
Mrs. Bert Kenyon, chairman,
and a committee composed of
Mrs. Nida Oatman, Mrs. Jennie
Hensler, Mrs. David Roberts.
Mrs. Blanche Robinson. Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Hamlin, Mrs. Zelma

sum, served refreshments of
cherry pie. Table decorations
were in the Washington's birth
day theme, with place cards in
the shape of hatchets. Mrs. Har
ry Bryant, noble grand, ex
pressed her appreciation to those
who had worked on committees
and provided the refreshments.
Medford Student Sings
With LaVerne Quartet
Cliff Pence, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Pence of Myers lane,
Medford, has appeared in nu
merous musical events recently
as part of the newly formed
Khormann quartet of LaVerne
college. LaVerne, Cal., news
from the college states.
The young man is the quartet
baritone and other members of
the quartet are Ralph Click,
bass. Wenatchee, Wash.; Norman
Johnson, first tenor from Mo
desto, Cal., and Wayne Snell,
second tenor, from LaVerne.
The quartet has appeared in
both secular and sacred pro
grams throughout southern Cali
fornia and will soon appear in
their home towns.
The cost of living in the U. S.
has risen 73 per cent since 1939.
President Announces
Oregon Federation
Scholarship Winner
Miss Aida Fabiero, graduate
of the University of the Phil
ippines at Manila, has been se
lected by the Oregon Federation
of Business and Professional
Women as this year's Oriental
scholarship winner, the federa
tion announces.
Ma Phorlps T.. F.dwnrds of
Philomath, president of the fed
eration, announced uie arrival
of the young Filipino, who al
ready is enrolled for graduate
study at Oregon State college.
The scholarship, given each year
by the federation, is for $800 and
is given to a woman of some
Oriental nation for study in
Home Economics and extension
service work.
Selection of the scholarship
student is made each year by
Miss Ava B. Milam, dean of
OCS's school of home econom
ics, who was the Inspiration for
the scholarship plan. Dean Milam
is familiar with the Oriental
scene and has taught home eco
nomics in the Orient. She met
Miss Fabiero last year in Manila
during a tour of Oriental coun
tries. Miss Fabiero was in extension
work for the Philippine govern
ment before she came to the
United States. Her scholarship
will enable her to study at Ore
gon State college until next win
ter, when she will return to the
islands to continue in extension
work. During her stay in Oregon
she plans to travel throughout
the state to observe the workings
at the extension service here.
She also will be willing to speak
to groups, concerning her native
land, and arrangements are be
ing made to bring her to Grants
Pass and Medford later this year.
The award was given to the
young Filipino woman at a tea
held in her honor at the home
of Miss Milam. In presenting the
scholarship. Mrs. Edwards said:
"Our BPW club's international
relations project, exemplified by
this scholarship, is our invest
ment in peace."

Scottish Rite Club ,
Plans Annual Dance
Scottish Rite Women's club Is
giving the annual dance and
card party for all Scottish Rite
members and their wives Satur
day, February 25 at the Medford
Masonic temple.
It is announced that cards
will be played beginning at 8
p.m. and dancing, to Bill Ab
botts orchestra, is set tor a p.m.
There will be square dancing
instruction, prizes for cards and
refreshment, and the committee
announces no charge will be
made for the oarty.
The committee in charge Is
headed by Mrs. I. D. Canfield,
with Mrs. H. L. Alford. Mrs.
Merritt Swing, Mrs. Perry Gregg,
Mrs. George w. Thomas and Mrs.
H. C. Goldsmith.
To Roseburg
Mrs. James Lillie, department
commander of the Disabled
American Veterans' auxiliary,
and Mrs. Ivan Hatfield, depart
ment adjutant, will return to
Medford this afternoon after
visiting DAV auxiliary No. 6
in Roseburg Thursday. The two
attended a- ceremony during
which the service flags of the
unit were dedicated.

Mitt Aida Fabiero, who arrived by air from Manila, P.I., early
in January, it thown above receiving a check for $800 from Mrt.
Charlene Edwardt of Philomath, president of the Oregon Federa
tion of Butinett and Professional Women. Mitt Fabiero will ute
the money for a year's graduate study in home economics and ex
tension work at Oregon State college. She it the fifth foreign

Willamette University
Choir To Be Broadcast;
Local Students On List
Willamette university's a cap-
ella choir will be 'aired coast-to-coast
on a network radio broad
cast in April, school officials
have announced. The 84-voice
group, which annually tours Ore
gon and neighboring states, has
been scheduled by the Mutual
Broadcasting system for an en
gagement on the college choir
series according to an announce
ment from Carlton Adair, west
coast progrm director.
The choir was organized in
1939 by Melvin H. Geist, direct
or and dean of the college of
music. Last year the group
toured northern California and
southern Oregon and this year
will traved as far north as Van
couver, B. C, during the spring
concert season, beginning March
31 at Silverton, Ore.
Three Medford students. Miss
Loree Monteith, Miss Jeanne
Rice and Herb Brower, sing with
the choir.
Women Of Moose Hold
Initiation On Monday;
Dinner Is Recent Event
Mrs. Paul Coats and Mrs.
Lloyd Morrison were initiated
into Women of the Moose during
the regular business meeting of
the lodge Monday evening.
Plans were made for a rum
mage and bake sale to be held
in the near future.
Ritual practice will be held at
the hall Tuesday. February 28.
