Judge Tries Free
Man He Convicted
Scranton. Pa. (U.R) George
Hrcben, 32, has been exchanging
letters since 1939 with the judge
who sent him to prison for 30 to
60 years for a series of burglaries
while on parole.
During the war. Hreben prayed
that Judge T. Linus Hoban, serv
ing in the army, would turn up
safely alter he was reportad
missing in action. Judge Hoban
did. He returned to his post as
president Judge of the Lacka
wanna county court, and recent
ly wrote a letter to the Pennsyl
vania pardons board.
In it Judge Hnban asked that
Hrcben be paroled, because, he
said, "his correspondence indi
cates steady, constant intellectual
development and ... a rainer
marked degree of moral rehabilitation."
Judge Hoban said he believed
the time was ripe for Hrcben's
parole if he appears to be a safe
risk to the penal authorities.
It will be Hrebpn's fourth try
for freedom. He is now blind in
one eye and failing sight in the
otner.

designed a flag he hopes will be
used by all U. S. aircraft.
Smith says that since congress
officially approved an ensign for
American yachts, there is no rea

prove an ensign for aircraft.
The flag he has desisned has
