Green's Loses Cagers
Game at Grants Pass

Saturday evening.
The Grants Pass quintet won
the honor last night by edging
Green's confectionery team, of
Medford, 64 to B9 after leading
31 to 26 at the half pause.
It was believed that the Grants
Pass team will meet Portland

Win Hockey Tilts

The New York Rangers, play
ing at the peak of their game
and with goalie Chuck Rayner
in his personal best form, had
high hopes of taking over third
olace in the National Hockey
league tonight.
In games this evening, the
Rangers, who trail third-place
Montreal by Just one point, take
on the last-place Black Hawks
in Chicago. And Montreal will
be facing first-place Detroit in
Montreal.
The Rangers' prospects haven't
been brighter in years as they
now ride a seven-game unbeaten
streak. Rayner has six shutouts
to his credit this season, includ
ing a 3 to 0 whitewash job on
the same Hawks in New York
last night.
In the only other NHL game
last night, the Toronto Maple
Leafs moved within six points of
first place by beating Boston 3
to 1.

Riggs Scores 20 Points
Barney Riggs did just about
everything but win the game

Thirteen of Riggs' points were
- made in the, laft half when the
confectionery rallied to try and
win the game.
It was a rough game with 32
fouls called against the Grants
Pass team and 20 against Green's
according to the local scorebook.
Green's converted 20 out of its
free throws while Fleischman's
made 11 out of its 20 tries.
However, the Medford quintet
made 14 out of its 20 free throws
in the last half.
Three Too Many
Green's players commented af
ter the game that playing three
cage tilts in as many days was
just too much for them nnd the
superior height of the Fleisch
man quitet also counted heavily

Medford baseball team In the
class D Far West league again,

Now directors of Rogue
Valley Baseball, Inc., have
decided to nickname the pro
club the "Rogues." Earlier this
week it was decided to nick
name the club the "Larks" af
ter the Meadowlark, state bird
for Oregon, and last season
they were known as the Nug
els. Business Manager Mel Car
penter said that the latest
change was made when it was
learned a team In the valley
had decided not to be known
as the Rogues. He explained
the directors had talked of
"Rogues" but decided against
it when another team chose
the name.

age. He has developed a fuel
which will stretch about two
tons of coal through an entire
winter.
Stanley Couslin, a 46-year-old
construction worker, just
burns the ashes over and over.
He saturates them in crankcasf
oil donated by a friendly filling
station operator. Every now and
then, he adds a few lumps of
fresh coal "to give the mixture
a little body."
In nearly three months, he has
used only a few bushels of real
coal.
