o'clock. Sports fans' are hoping
the bout will be as good as last
week's main event when Billy
Graham and Kid Gavilan traded
punches.
The fighting will not be con
fined to Madison Square Garden
Friday night, as Ozie Nelson and
Thornberry. Ozzie's neigh b o r.
are cornered into putting on the
gloves at the Boy Scouts fight
arranged by their sons in "The
Adventures of Ozzie and Har
riet" at 9 p. m. over KYJC.
"No School Today." a new
two-hour show for children and
adults, featuring Jon Arthur, will
have its premiere at 8 a. m. over
Station KYJC and the American
Broadcasting company.
Jon Arthur, founder and
writer of the clever new pro
gram, was presenting his show
every Saturday morning from
the studios of Station WSAI in
Cincinnati. O., quite oblivious of
network interest and building up
a listening audience the dream
size of anyone in radio. It didn't
take long for the network (ABC)
to recognize the potentialities of
his program and after the aver-

Civilian Workers
Captured On Wake
ill Accept Cut
Chicago, Feb. 17 (U.R Most
of the 791 civilian workers cap
tured on Wake island who sued
for $55,000,000 damages have
indicated they will accept lesser
amounts set by law, an attorney
said today.
The men were working on the
island's defenses when captured.
They brought suit for back
wages and damages against five
engineering companies. Because
the firms worked on a cost plus
basis any amounts awarded
would ultimately be paid by the
government.
Harold M. Keele, who repre
sents the companies, said that all
but 122 men have signed appli
cations for compensation under
the war claims act of 1948 and
waived other claims.
Applications Processed
The applications of many oth
ers are being processed and will
be added to the list, Keele said.
The men would receive about
$16,000 each under the law.
Attorneys for the workmen,
including Jacob Arvey. head of
Chicago's democratic party, re
cently asKed federal Judge Wal
ter J. La Buy to enforce a lien
of- S2.210.000 for attorneys' fees
against any sums paid by the
government to the workers and
the matter is under considera
tion. Keele asked dismissal of the
suit at a hearing February 6 on
the grounds that a large number
of the originators have aban
doned it but a ruling was upheld
pending outcome of the lien.

The British doctors who ob
served Dr. Gellespie's work
thought the good results were
partly psychological. The ner
vous tension is reduced, they
found, when the patient feels
that he can relieve an impend
ing attack by his own efforts.
In emphysema (dilation and
atrophy of the air cells in the
lungs) In children or adults thec
is mote or less constant wheez
ing and difficult breathing on
slight exertion, often a bluish or
purplish or livid color although
the patient is comparatively com
fortable, and noticeably pro
longed expiration in other
words it is easier to take air into
the lungs than it Is to get rid
of it.
Most elderly people with
chronic bronchitis have some
emphysema which makes them
puff and blow upon walking up
hill or climbing stairs.
In any and all of these ail
ments, as I have been trying to
tell you for years and years and
you have dismissed as unworthy
of trial because it doesn't come
in pill form, the regular prac
tice of the belly breathing exer
cise, as described in the booklet
How To Breathe, is beneficial
and sometimes virtually cura
tive. The belly breathing exercise,
if you do it faithfully even just
night and morning, better four or
five times a day, enables you to
regain control of the diaphragm
the breathing muscle.
I'd like to give instructions for
belly breathing here, but too
much sad experience has intim
idated me. Absurd and alarming,
things can happen to recipes, for
mulas or technical directions be
fore they reach print.
Few of us know how to
breathe, how to, well, I'd say,
give the diaphragm, the great
breathing muscle, freedom to
work naturally rather than "con
trol of the diaphragm." After
all, the diaphragm is automatical
ly or autonomically controlled
it is least impeded when one is
asleep or under the Influence of
a general anesthetic and so, I
think, one may well forget !t ex
cept when one is doing the belly
breathing exercise.
Athletes, physical educators,
trainers and coaches who are e.s
pesially interested in "wind"
might well consider whether nat
ural belly breathing had any
thing to do with the winning of
the Marathon swimming events
by the Japanese.

The veterans administration re
ported today that it spent $6,
687.495,447 in veterans benefits
during the year ended last
July 1.
The figure included direct
payments to veterans, their de
pendents and beneficiaries, and
the cost of administering veter
ans' programs.
More than half the money
went for two items $1,891,283.
111 in compensation, pension or
retirement pay to veterans or
their dependents, and $1,865.-
804.493 to veterans In training
or education under the GI bill
of rights.

H-Bomb Blast Might
Disintegrate World
Ottawa. Feb. 17 (U.R) Explo
sion of the first hydrogen bomb
might cause the world and all in
it to disintegrate in less than a
minute, Dr. Allen Munn, one of
Canada's foremost physicists,
said today.
The super-bomb, if big enough,
could set off a chain reaction
that would encircle the globe
and annihilate it. Munn said in
an interview.
