bled down some 50 feet and ran

meeting Friday night, February
17, will be some of county-wide
scope. Men of the community
will furnish the program which
will have a variety of entertain
ing features, including vocal and
instrumental selections and
promises a display of many mu
sical instruments. Refreshments
will be served at conclusion of
the program.

On Bergman Affair
Vatican City, Feb. 15 (U.R)
Monsignor Dino Staffa. one of
the 14 judges of the sacred Rota,
said today that the case of
Actress Ingrid Bergman and
Italian Film Director Roberto
Rossellini was that of "two per
sons living publicly in adultery,"
The sacred Rota is the high
court of the Roman Catholic
church in such cases. The judge's
statement was made to the Cath
olic news agency Ari.
The judge also said the recog
nition of the civil annulment of
Rossellini's marriage by the
civil courts in Italy violated the
lateran pacts regulating Italo
Vatican relations.
Living in Adultery
"Their situation, even if they
contract a new civil marriage, is
that of two persons who live
publicly in adultery," the agency
quoted Monsignor Staffa con
cerning the Rosseltini-Bergman
case.
"The notoriety of their per
sons and of the fact committed
only renders greater the scandal
created by them and increases
their responsibility before God.
"The sentence with which the
court of appeals of Turin has
sanctioned the annulment of
Rossellini is in contrast with the
concordat between the Holy See
and the Italian state because ar
ticle 34 of the concordat itself
reserves to the exclusive com
petence of ecclesiastic tribunals
all causes concerning the nullity
of matrimonies contracted in the
church."
